Lots to do in Aswan.very nice and Egyptianesque though ;) Today, we have a free afternoon and I am going to relax by the pool while we sail to Edfu. ... Mon 02 Mar 09: After a lazy morning wandering around Luxor being hassled for scarves, clothes, spices, a sail in a feluca, you name it, we finally sailed early afternoon yesterday for Edfu, our first stop along the Nile. ... On the way to Edfu we went through the Esna lock; the Nile rises by 6m there. ... I thought it was going to be painfully slow, like filling a dry dock, but from gates closed to being full (6m remember) took about six minutes! 12/1/08 Gavin and Summer arranged a felucca ride up the Nile for us, saying that it was cheaper than putting us up in hotels and feeding us. Our last stop on the felucca was at Edfu Temple, where Seth, the god of chaos, was represented by a hippopotomas and baked into cake form, then eaten by his avenger, Horus. ... At Edfu, a guard was pointing out a staircase in an effort to eek out “baksheesh” from visitors. ...
