The Galapagos Islands are around 600 miles off the west coast of Ecuador. There are 12 main islands and some smaller ones. I flew to Baltra and boarded a boat for 8 days with 14 others. I was lucky to join a fun group and we had a fantastic guide who was extremely knowledgable and fun. We went to a different island every day, mainly cruising overnight. We were always up early (5.30am!) to beat the heat and the crowds, then we would explore an island, go snorkeling or swimming, return to the boat for lunch, take siesta and then go off again...

Jul 27, 2005 - Isla Isabella : Volcán Sierra Negra y Volcán Chico

IN ENGLISH BELOW Ce mercredi, un programme tout different. Arrives sur Isabella, la plus grand ile des Galapagos, dans la garua, la brume humide typique pour la saison, nous avons passe 40 minutes a l`arriere d`un camion pour atteindre le campememt des chevaux. Les chevaux ne sont clairement pas endemiques mais nous ont quand meme emmenes pendant un heure pour monter et atteindre la caldera du Volcan Sierra Negra (une caldera large de plusieurs km). Pendant cette promenage equestre, le brouillard s`est leve, enfin en fait on est passe...

Jul 27, 2005 - Peru and the Galapagos Islands

After 15-minutes into a 14-hour bus ride from Copacabana (Bolivia) to Cusco (Peru) we realized that we had made a mistake to sit near the front. A man was shouting and waving the book he had distributed through the bus, one sitting on my lap. It wouldn't have been so bad if we had known what he were saying, but it was all in Spanish, very fast and loud Spanish. He went on, and on, seemingly without breath, for some 30-minutes and then collected the books and money for the books people kept, gave the driver his cut and jumped off our bus to...
