Mar 1, 2010 - crossing the Equator

Today we made a dry landing on the Island of Isabela. This is a lava field that is at the foot of the most active volcanoes in Galapagos, Sierra negra and Cerro Azul. It was a difficult hike and very sharp and sparse, with only the odd cactus for colour. We could clearly see the other active volcanoes on the horizon. We did find surprisingly a small lagoon that had flamingos and ducks on it. I managed to get the schedule wrong and missed the snorkeling today, but we did have a panga ride around the island to look at the mangroves, but...
