Riobamba In Riobamba ist Samstag Markttag. Von den umliegen Doerfern kommen die Idigenas und verkaufen ihr Obst und Gemuese. der Markt zieht sich ueber mehrere Strassen hin und ist ein wunderbares Chaos. Am Sonntag nehmen wir den beruehmten Zug zur "Teufelsnase" Nariz del Diablo. Um einen der begehrten Plaetze auf dem Dach zu ergattern muss man schon um 6 Uhr morgens auf dem Bahnhof stehen. Promt verschlafen wir es, unser Wecker war noch auf Galapagoszeit, und erreichen den Zug gerade noch 5 Minuten vor der Abfahrt. Platz ist nur noch im...

Sorry for not updating this site sooner there have not been many places to use the Internet and also we have been very busy and more importantly have been having a fantastic time. Day 1 The Flight Arrived into Quito on time at 2300 very tired having been on 4 planes and many Security Checks. Checked into a Hotel in Quito and enjoyed a good nights sleep. Day 2 Journey to the Jungle A full days drive took us away from Quito through some incredible scenery and out into the Jungle. We spent one night in a tin hut in Mishawuli before going into...

Jun 14, 2006 - Riding the Devil's Nose

Luckily the hotel manager in Riobamba tipped us off that the train station ticket office actually opened at 4pm and not 7pm as the guidebooks state. The Nariz del Diablo train (Devil's Nose) was the main tourist attraction in town and if you missed out on tickets, Riobamba was not the most happening place to hang out in for a few days waiting for the next train. There were five men working in the ticket office. One guy served the the long, snaking queue, another collected passports over his shoulder, which were then passed on to the guy...
