After leaving Lasso, we change bus in Ambato, Olive finds a spot in front and all the way in the back on the right hand side there is still a window seat free I can slip into. It is clear we should get off this bus, this is how horrific bus accidents happen, but we don’t, and are happy to get off alive at San Pedro the Alausí, even if it is at the roadside of the Panamericana, about two kilometres from the city centre with no taxi in sight. ... The 100 kilometres between Riobambo, Alausí and Sibambe has been restored, but the bit between Alausí and Sibambe is the spectacular section everyone wants to see. ... Aujourd'hui on s'est levés à 5h30 (quand même!) pour prendre le fameux train entre Riobamba et Alausi, qui part à 7h00! Dur dur! Mais bon, ça valait vraiment le coup! Je vous explique rapidement le principe: Faire le trajet en train, d'accord, mais sur le toit du train, c'est encore mieux! Imaginez à 7h00 du matin comme il fait froid dans les montagnes le nez au vent! Et à midi en plein soleil une fois que les nuages se sont levés, y intérêt à se tartiner de crème! Enfin, ce n'était que peu de désagréments par rapport aux magnifiques paysages qu'on a pu admirer pendant 6h! Super beaux! Et vraiment sympas de se sentir au milieu de la nature! Seul "inconvénient": ce train est vraiment super touristique (forcément on est pas les seuls à lire le Lonely Planet!), et il n'y avait que des touristes sur le toit du train (mis à part le cheminot et le vendeur de sucreries!)! Un peu bizarre comme impression, surtout quand on s'est mis à lancer des bonbons aux enfants du coin qui nous faisaient coucou dans l'espoir de quelques sucreries! On a eu l'impression d'être au carnaval à Düsseldorf, mais du côté des chars cette fois!
