Aug 10, 2009 - The stove is installed

Monday, August 10, 2009 We know that Squiggles the “guard” dog down the hill is alive and well since she showed up at our house last Friday morning at 6:40am with her tail a-waggin like crazy. I think she’s on probation for straying instead of guarding her home. Oh, that lovely propane 5K generator I mentioned last week….it went back to Santigo today. It was so loud that Dave while lying in a hammock 20 feet away from the generator, with his cell phone right next to him and he could not hear my phone calls. A bit noisy to say the least....

Aug 5, 2009 - Water pump, batteries, PVC chairs, shower and toilet and more!

Thursday, August 5, 2009 Our Italian neighbor down the hill below us had a new Dominican puppy living at his house for a few weeks as a “guard” dog, the term being very loose based on her lack of ferociousness. The not so intimidating dog was nick-named Squiggles by our neighbor Jan and preferred to spend her days laying on the floor of our tiki hut with Bear. (Bear was not so much a fan of this). Unfortunately, we think Squiggles may have been fired from her protection gig because we haven’t seen her all week. Last week Dave and I dug...

Jul 22, 2009 - Aly, mosquitos, ratones and ventanas

Wednesday. July 22, 2009 So I wrote a really good update on this date, typing on the web site instead of on word like I usually do because we have “high speed” internet at the house and I thought it would be easier. Now I look back at the entry and “THERE’S NOTHING THERE!” Well, I will have to try and remember what I said based on the title of the text entry. Our neighbors, Jan and Dave are back. They are in the picture I’ve attached that we had taken with Aly right before he left for Haiti- more on that to follow. (Dave and I look like...

Jul 10, 2009 - Back to work on the house...lights and more lights

Monday, July 6, 2009 We are up and off by 8am to go to Santiago to pick up lights for the house and groceries. We have Jaime a local taxi driver with a van pick us up and we end up very thankful for the extra room after we load up the van with inside and outside lights for the house, enough food to feed us for 4 months and a new toilet (it was on sale and we couldn’t pass it up!) As usual it rains while we are in Santiago but we manage to get all our shopping done and still make it back to Luperon before 4pm. I head back to the boat to...

Jul 5, 2009 - Still unpacking

Sunday, July 5, 2009 It’s Sunday morning after our first night of sleep back on the boat and Dave’s back to presenting the cruiser’s net on the radio at 8am. Later, we head up to the house to check it out and see if the tile really was completed and discover that the tile is done and looks great and even better yet Aly had been very busy being our gardener. Every tree on the property is now ringed with rocks and they all have various tropical plants and flowers growing around them. It looks great! After a nap in the hammocks we head...

Jul 4, 2009 - Back in the DR

Saturday, July 4, 2009 We landed back in the Dominican Republic around 1:30pm and were back in Luperon just in time to dump our stuff on the boat and head out to the playacita (little beach) for a 4th of July party at the beach. It felt good to be home although the boat is a wreck since we brought back 200 pounds of “crap” consisting of everything from parts for the house, high school yearbooks, 40 + years of photos and license plates…don’t even ask. The ice chest is dumped and cleaned with soap, bleach and water but it’s not nearly as bad...

May 3, 2009 - Finally an update

Hola Amigos. Dave and I are back in the states for a while. We flew back to see his oldest graduate from Army boot camp in Columbia, SC on the 22nd of April. We then headed to Charleston to visit friends and empty out a storage unit. (We had better luck visiting friends than we did emptying out the storage unit!)Shortly thereafter I flew to OKC to visit my folks and Dave drove to Gulfport, Miss to meet up with his mom and begin the journey of driving her 5th wheel up to Alaska. (I keep asking Dave where in Alaksa and all he tells me is "The...

Today, is Saint Patrick's Day!!!!! It is a big deal down here in the DR. We went to an Irish Pub that had beach access. They had live music and a parade.
