Feb 6, 2020 - Sea and Sick

Well, we had a different sea day today. We went for breakfast and had a look at a poolside sale then returned to our room. It was very windy and sitting on the veranda was not an option. Christine started to feel a bit queasy with the motion and took some Gravol which helped but did not completely dispose of the unsettled feeling. We sat and read. Christine had very little for lunch. I picked up what we normally would have from the Neptune lounge and ate in the room. I went to the strings lunchtime performance. I felt the ship had settled...

Caribbean Cruise

Feb 5, 2020 - Amber Cove, Dominican Republic

When we stepped out onto the deck tonight and the breeze warmly wrapped our pants round our legs we reflected that the feeling would have been quite different if we had done this at home where the same pants would probably have turned stiff and our legs felt the chill of the cold fabric. We are fortunate to be able to escape at least some of the ravages of winter. We were up early this morning and had our breakfast delivered to our room. We ate and got ready then waited for the all clear to leave the ship. We watched the ship dock at Amber...

Caribbean Cruise

Feb 6, 2017 - Amber Cove, Dominican Republic

Amber Cove 8 am to 3:30 PM. We did the Discover Puerto Plata Traditions and Local Flavors. We took a nice air conditioned tour bus and visited the Vivonte Cigar Factory and they shared information and we watched them roll cigars. We tasted organic coffee and were offered a cigarillo to smoke. Only 1-2 people did partake of that offer. We stopped in the city and toured Cathedral San Felipe and Plaza Independencia, and then walked around downtown. We also went to n organic chocolate factory and learned how they make chocolate. We had a few...

Sep 23, 2010 - MIA Missing in Action

We have taken a sabbatical from our sabbatical and we are now in the hunt for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow to refill our cruising kitty. Dave says large donations are not only accepted but appreciated. More updates of our ongoing adventures to follow shortly. OUT.

Jul 20, 2010 - 20 de Julio 2010

Enjoying cool breezes, hot sun, soaking rains, softball Saturdays, jam sessions, weed pulling, book reading, bread cooking, car and pasola repairing, house cleaning, curtain rod installation, bathroom door installation....pending, Spanish practicing, music listening, karaoke work, tutoring, and Bear napping. That's what we've been doing. Hope you are all well and enjoying the summer....the year's half over. And our new favorite phrase...REMEMBER WHERE YOU ARE! When electricity is not working RWYA, when cows are all over the road making it...

May 31, 2010 - Cats something...what was that Rob?

Someone suggested today that our updating skills seems to be lacking a bit on this web site. We concur completely. It must be the exhausting agenda we face on a daily basis. Can you feel our pain? So here it is in a nutshell, kind of....skip over the boring stuff unless you are a boater and like reading about someone else's pain. Our dinghy, our transportation to and from the boat, has a 4 finger width cut in the front pontoon, (yes, I can stick all my fingers in the cut, which I didn't discover until my 300th pump from the foot pump still...

Mar 19, 2010 - Off to Samana

We took a weekend road trip with our friends in mid-March with our final destination being the port of Samana so our friend could meet his sister when he cruise shipped stopped for a few hours. We enjoyed visits at Los Gringos Resort, Rio San Juan and various other stops along the way. What a beautiful country!

Mar 6, 2010 - Stop the presses...two entries in one month?

Good Saturday morning from Luperon, DR. It's still the rainy season here and we continue to watch the rain clouds roll in this morning after two full days of almost non-stop rain. As we always tell ourselves, It beats snow! And since we are cruisers (or should that be WERE cruisers) we should be able to handle any type of weather! Everything is green and growing like crazy and the rain is needed so there is no real complaining. In town they are in the process of repaving main street(Duarte Street). Unfortunately, we don't believe that they...

Mar 1, 2010 - Oh, the ides of March

Let me start off by saying this...Did you know that roosters "cock a doodle doo" at all times of the day, not just at daylight? Yep, it's a fact and we can confirm it as I sit here at 6:30 in the PM listening to them doodle, so to speak. So it's already March, and it's not as if we needed a winter reminder of why we are glad we are living in the Dominican Republic and not our Nation's Capital. There is no Snowmageddon, no Icemageddon, not geddons on any sort. We are loving the cool nights....and sometimes cool days of the Dominican...

Feb 11, 2010 - Still here

I would like to claim that all our previous blogs suddenly disappeared from this web site, but alas that is not true. We've been doing lots of things but updating has not been on the list. So what's the latest? It's been raining like crazy this morning so it seemed like a good excuse to update the site. We have pictures to add too. 2010 is treating us well. We spent Christmas in the Caymans with all my family and loved the opportunity to catch up in person. Dave celebrated his 46th Birthday by putting on a karaoke show at Puerto Blanco...

Oct 30, 2009 - Happy almost Halloween

They don't celebrate Halloween in the DR however there are local parties celebrating Halloween hosted by gringos lined up for tomorrow. Wisely, I think Dave and I will be laying low this year. We just got back from a 23 day "vacation" at an all inclusive place in Santiago. All I am saying is that I obviously need to be VERY specific when I say I want to take a little trip away from Luperon next time! The all inclusive getaway ended up being our friend Dr. Oscar's private clinic. Dave said he needs to work on his Spanish because he thought...

Sep 25, 2009 - Only 3 months till Christmas

Dave and I headed out with our friend Mack to Santiago on the 16th of September to get a "good deal" on a fridge since we were told they were cheaper in Santiago than in Luperon. Eight hours later we were back in Luperon sans fridge and later that day we bought the one we originally saw and liked in town. It has a one year guarantee, for as much as that is worth in this country. And the brand name is...MABE...which has resulted in our friend Warren stating in a smart-a>> manner, "it mabe a good fridge, but mabe not". Luckily he doesn't earn...
