Jun 29, 2014 - Český Krumlov- UNESCO WORLD SITE and it is Beautiful

Good Morning! Today we started early heading off to Český Krumlov as mentioned a UNESCO-World Heritage Site. This wonderful little town on the Vltava River surrounded by beautiful countryside has it all! It is dominated by the Castle, it has the narrow cobblestone streets, music, art, inns, neat shops and the on the Castle grounds the OLDEST Baroque Theatre in the world. More about that later. We hired a driver and had Wilma take us on the tour of CK (locals call it that!). The drive lasted about 2 hours, easy drive. Once we arrived in CK...

Oct 30, 2005 - Off to Cesky Krumlov

The next stop on the trip was Cesky Krumlov, a small town about 3 hours south of Prague. We had heard from quite a few people that it was a beautiful and cheap place to visit so it sounded good to us. Meisha and Lindsay booked a hostel for the two of them because they wanted some girl time before Meisha left and headed back to Canada. The other five of us, Tilly, Bruno, Wade, Pam (one of the other Canadian girls we met), and myself, ended up booking a room at another hostel. After our big night out and getting back to the hostel at 6am I...

Sep 19, 2005 - Cesky Krumlov

I love it here! Its small but beautiful. It helps that it is beautiful and sunny. I also need to correct my spelling of the river and its called, Vltava. I was way off, oh well. This was the first time I traveled to a new place without making any reservations. It was nice not to be freaked out of my mind. This hostel definately has character and its right along the river with an outside area. I only booked for 2 nights then I'm off to Vienna. I don't even know how I'm getting there which was is pretty liberating and I now feel like a...

Jun 24, 2005 - Český Krumlov, Czech

Just when we thought that we had seen enough UNESCO World Heritage Sites, we arrived in Český Krumlov. Located on a bend on the same river as Prague (the Vltava), the city is one of the most picturesque we have seen in our travels, which is quite an accomplishment. The old red tile roofed buildings, narrow winding cobblestone streets, cafés along the riverfront, a castle on the hill, and picture perfect weather...and we don't even think it is the great Czech pilsner talking.

Jun 18, 2005 - Cesky Krumlov

Got here on Sunday and found(actually called ahead) Skippy's Hostel, run by a woman of Cuban/Czech parents, a singer at heart but runs the hostel to live here and sings only locally for the love of it! Great people, great place...went to hike to a nearby Celtic ruin(first by short train trip) and due to the fact I neglected to ask which direction to go on the path, I of course, lead us in 180 degrees wrong so after hiking up up up when we were supposed to be next to a river, we eventually went down down down ina circle and Bons hip was not...

Jun 9, 2005 - Day 6 - Prague/Ceske Budejovice

Got up twice, the first time seemed a mistake after the night before... after some reviving breakfast, we packed up and headed for the train station. Staff were friendly and helpful and we got a lunch-time train to Ceske Budejovice, south of Prague, in Bohemia. We caught the "fast train", which took 2.5 hours to cover the 145 kms, so I don't think the bullet train has anything to worry about from Czech rail just yet. Ceske Budovice has a couple of things going for it. It is WAAAAY less touristy that Prague, it is on the way to Cesky...
