Dec 4, 2017 - A trip through Three Countries

We were up really early this morning and down for breakfast before the restaurant opened. Christine was afraid we would miss the bus that was leaving to take us to Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. This is an old mediaeval town with an old castle and narrow streets and old buildings decorated with sgarffitto and frescos. It was a dull day threatening to snow, and in fact it did snow off and on all day. The ship had docked at Brandstatt to land those who were going on our tour and another one to Salzburg. We had been told to take our...

May 15, 2017 - Now on to Cesky Krumlov

This morning we head off by 3 vans to Cesky Krumlov a ride about 2 1/2 hours getting to our hotel in the old part of the city right on the edge of the river, we leave our bags in the lobby as our rooms are not ready and off for a guided walk about the old part of the city. In the afternoon we have a rain which chased a lot of the people off the streets, out for some dinner and a couple drinks back to hotel to just kick back. Will explore the city tomorrow

May 29, 2016 - Cesky Krumlov Again

Monday 30th May 2016 – Cesky Krumlov Rain overnight and a cloudy morning – with only small bits of blue sky – but it is shorts weather. The shower is not great 10c for 10 min but not that hot and the cubicle I was directed to had no hooks inside – so clothes had to be slung over the door. We drove up to Chavalsiny to check out a Dutch campsite – nice place lots of pitches – heated toilet and shower rooms – friendly owner (he also had a Range Rover sport) and free Wi-Fi. We drove back to town and refuelled the car and back to the campsite to...

Jun 26, 2015 - Cesky Krumlov

After meeting my Intrepid tour group in Vienna we travelled on to Cesky Krumlov, in the Czech Republic. There are 11 in the group, ranging in age from about 28 to 65. I am not sure but I might be the oldest! Two couples, 3 single men and 4 single women. A good group. Some New Zealanders and some Australians! I am sharing with Sue from Mosman! Cesky Krumlov is a 13th century town with the second largest castle in the Czech Republic. A beautiful little town. We stayed right in the middle of the old town in a very cute hotel. We did an...

Jun 6, 2015 - Day 28 - Aschach/Cesky Krumlov

Saturday 6th June, 2015 - Aschach/Cesky Krumlov/ [Passau/Vilshofen next entry] We travelled through the night through the town of Linz (although it doesn't show on the line on the map) docking at a little place called Aschach (pr Asher). This was where the two groups of day trippers left the ship on buses leaving the ship to travel on to Passau near the Austrian/Germany border. There were two extra options available today and we elected the one taking us to Cesky Krumlov and were not disappointed. It’s a world heritage listed city in the...

Jan 5, 2015 - A Little Winter Wonder in Cesky Krumlov

Monday 5 January Weather: A bit nippy with snow showers all day 2° Steps: 12,788 Today we all had a good sleep in and didn’t get out of bed until after 8.30! We had a late breakfast at the Hotel Grand which was included in our room rate. Cereal, fruit and yoghurt followed by breakfast sausages (more like a mini frankfurter, very tasty), bacon and egg. There was a coffee machine rather than freshly made coffee – it was a lot less like tar and a lot more like coffee as we know it! After breakfast we headed to the Information Centre to book a...

Jan 4, 2015 - Salzburg to Cesky Krumlov

Sunday 4 January Weather: Overcast 2° Steps: 12,685 It took 3 trains and 6 hours to reach Cesky Krumlov. We took a train named Henry to Linz (complete with gluten free brownie for Pam) where we had a break for an hour. Pam and I took a brisk walk into town, buying some lunch while we were out. On the next train we had a compartment to ourselves in an old style carriage. We had lunch in relative comfort but there was no coffee to be had on the train at all. On arrival at Ceske Budejovice we spent some time in the railway station feeling like...

Sep 11, 2014 - Telc to Cesky Krumlov

Were greeted this morning with the news that the rain is coming towards us as we journey to Cesky Krumlov. so coats and umbrellas at the ready we set off for a 100 K drive through mainly farmland. Iva explained that the ponds near every village were the result of decrees by rulers; they were stocked with fish (often carp) and these fish provided much needed protein. All this led to Iva telling us about the Czech Christmas traditions as carp were to be eaten on Christmas Eve. Only when quite near our Cezky K did we pass through Cesky...

Aug 27, 2014 - Another Step Back in Time

Bit disappointed on waking this morning to find that it was pouring with rain. Not much we can do about it. Enjoyed a great breakfast again before loading up the car ready to head to our next stop - Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. The rain eased and then came back again as we headed along the autobahn. Doing just fine until we hit some roadworks and couldnt take the road we were supposed to. Just followed the other vehicles and finally figured out that the yellow sign with black writing written both the correct way up and upside down...

Jul 23, 2014 - Cesky Krumlov, CZ

The longer I am in CZ the more I like it. We visited the town of Cesky Krumlov which is referred to as the “little Prague”. Krumlov is the second most visited sight in CZ after Prague. It’s a great little town that has a river running through the center of town in the shape of an “S” so you are continually crossing one of the many bridges that connect the different sections of town. There were hundreds of people floating down the river in rubber rafts and kayaks. Of course, as with most cities in Europe, there was a huge castle up on the...

Dec 28, 2013 - Last Day in Cesky Krumlov

Visited the Eggenberg Brewery this morning but found it very disappointing as it was not operating at this time of the year (too cold for much beer to be drunk) and it appeared run down and dirty. However Alex and Steve said that this didn't affect the taste of the beers. They both returned to the small, smokey (people are allowed to smoke in bars, restaurants etc) brewery bar nearby and had a bottle of each of the different beers including smoked beer and lemon beer. Beer, as with most things in Cesky Krumlov, is very cheap with pints of...
