Apr 16, 2012 - Limassol

Our last few days in Cyprus before flying out 7:30pm Wednesday, 18th to Kuwait. 4-16 Wiki Info Limassol Back to Limassol via Paphos/Pafos...interesting that all the Turkish buses we have taken had governors which presented them from going over 80km/hr(50mph) . In Greece and now Cyprus S the buses can go upwards of 100km/hr, very curious since the highways in most cases are of equal quality and likewise, the buses. In fact, I'd say the buses in Turkey overall are better. We had arranged to connect again with Valerie but we needed more info...

Apr 13, 2012 - Lemesos or Limassol or ?

4-13 Friday the 13th, Mari's lucky day (she says, I think it's just a hoax!). Onward after a long pause - for us - going to Lemesos or Limassol or ?...very confusing here with at least 2 names for every town! Greek, Turkish, and sometimes ancient name when I try to Google or find info it seems no one can agree on just one name (sometimes even in the towns themselves!! Good to have these days 'off' to wash clothes, etc. even has been good getting rid of Mari's cold, I think her fits of coughing are over...good for all concerned. A walk...

Jul 29, 2010 - Not allowed

From Egypt we made it to the English convention in Cyprus just in time. It felt like a mini-international convention because there were sessions in many languages. The main one was Greek, us English which included many Filipino sisters, Singhala from Sri Lanka, Arabic, Russian which included Bulgarian and Polish too. I learned that Cyprus was once a British colony so of course there were many from England. I quite enjoyed hearing the British accent in the talks. (And explains why they drive on the left side of the road.) There is even a...

Apr 29, 2008 - Cyprus...and the Giorgio Taxi

So we arrive in Cyprus with no plan, no organized tour, and simply beautiful weather. We had an idea to just get off the boat and hire a cabbie to drive us around for the 4 hours we were to be on the island. We got off the boat, and we did just that. But, not only did we find a cabbie, we found Giorgio and his black stretch Mercedes Benz. He looked like Anthony Quinn and sounded like Telly Savales. He was cooler than cool, and he knew every nook and cranny of his island, and the history...HOLY COW!!!! The 5 of us piled in and were awaiting...

Nov 28, 2007 - Limassol

The observant out there may have noticed that I flew to Cyprus. I didn't fully explain my rules before I set off on this overland trip - I'm allowed to fly return trips to get to places unreachable by overland modes of transport as long as it's a return trip. I will be flying back to Athens to pick up the overland journey where I left off. I reserve the right to change the rules when and as I like. My work here is done now, another drought busted, other parts of the world are calling.

May 17, 2007 - Jennifer and sailing towards Israel

Jennifer 17 May A text from Lars about 10 am had an ETA of 1300 so based on that I was wandering along the harbour about 11 going back to the hotel to pick up my gear when I saw a yacht entering Paphos Harbour. IT WAS JENNIFER! A beautiful boat! I rushed down to meet Lars and the rest of the crew. I had no idea who or how many were on board. There were 3 on board. Lars (Swedish), the skipper and owner of the boat, Rick (American) a long term friend of Lars and Jenya (Russian) another paying crew like me. It is a very international boat!...

Jul 1, 2004 - "No one has been shot in Cyprus"

Nicosia, sunny, 40 degrees. A couple of observations. I don't like bureaucrats. People whose sole duty it is to spout off propaganda representing some official line or another. We had a meeting at the Ministry of Education this morning during which we were talked at (not to) by a group of official bureaucrats. They had prepared elaborate PowerPoint presentations with a lot of distracting bells and whistles, which they read to us word for word and offered little embellishment upon. I don't like PowerPoint presentations. I don't like...
