Dec 17, 2013 - Famous????

after doing some volunteer work for the library here, I have been asked to do a few interviews. see the link. It is in Croatian, sorry. I work with the man and woman at the library. I have been getting messages like crazy through LinkedIn. Everything from ˝lets go for coffee˝ to ˝please can you give me advice about Canada˝ to ˝find me a job in Canada˝ to ˝I need a Canadian wife so I can go to Canada, where can I find one˝ to ˝you're from Canada you must have money and I need some˝ to ˝can I see you naked˝. I am not sure fame is for me....

Dec 13, 2013 - The days go on

The days go on as they will I have been keeping myself busy with walks and other fun moments… Playing Barbie’s and other games with a 7 and 9 year old. After reading about me on the library website a woman tracked me down on LinkedIn and asked if I teach English to children. So now I go to their house a couple of hours a week and play with the girls while they practice the English they have and new English they learn from me. Such as jingle bells. So when I gave the talk at the library about Canada the guy who set it up, Stjepan, call the...

Nov 23, 2013 - Let me be your ticket home

Let me be your ticket home I have felt for most of my life that I was not where I belong. I have been looking for home for a long time. I used to wonder if my grandmother’s issues trickled down through the generations. Her motion in life was legendary. My mother could not sit still either. Does this explain why I had moved 33 before I was 28???? I got a glimpse of myself today in a way I have never seen myself before. I am ridiculous. By this I mean, don't I know I was the deaf baby girl born in the tiny town of Cache Creek, BC to a mother...

Nov 16, 2013 - Who am I becoming in Zadar???

This is how it has been going for me…..How have you been?????? When sitting in rental number 1 and crying and trying to remember to breathe. Wondering if I had made a mistake. I said to the angels, if you want me to stay you have to make it easier for me......They want me to stay. I am a lot happier in my second rental. The lovely weather is not hurting anything. The locals call it cold but I am Canadian after all, it will take a while before I am anywhere near cold. I might call this Vancouver cool but cold, no. Volunteering: I went to...

Nov 8, 2013 - Bug bites, talking to strangers and second chances

Well, what a time I have had since I last checked in. So I got to rental number one. the girl told me that the price they had quoted was missing the electricity charge and the power charge and the charge for her mother to wash my clothes. I was mad but paid up. not that much but that was not the point. When you say all included, mean it. I woke up the first day looking like I had some kind of flesh eating disease. something was biting the heck out of me in the night. I went to the pharmacist who thought it was a reaction to a spider bit....

Nov 3, 2013 - Zadar

Well I am in Zadar. And the water is wonderful. I felt like I was guided here. And the signs (X marks the spot and the angel with the soaring the bird) make me sure this is the right move. Will it be my forever place??? I am not sure but it is a good start. I have experienced happiness here but there is also loneliness. There are a couple of special things here. 1) the ocean organ. you sit on the stairs and listen to the ocean make music has it rides up against them. I don't know how it works but it is so wonderful 2) the sun spot. cant...

Sep 4, 2013 - Zadar - a symphony of spectacular sights & sounds!

Our bus ride from Plitvice National Park to Zadar was quite picturesque along some green mountainsides and greener fields and past small villages with red roofed stone houses. The road turned west and we went through the longest tunnel (at least 5km) and several smaller ones before we ended up on the ocean side of the mountain range. The mountains had changed from green to just rock and scrubbrush – very bleak looking. Before long the landscape turned lush again and we could see Zadar in the distance beside the glimmering ocean! After a...

Nov 1, 2012 - Monday 29th October - off to Zadar for the night!

Hi everyone! Last morning in Rijeka and after our sad farewells to family, we were on our way once again this time to Zadar! The coastline of the Adriatic is something to behold! Such beautiful scenery! A very cold day though with snow on the mountains! After taking a wrong turn along the way, we got up close and personal with that white fluffy stuff! We went up a mountain instead of a road along the coast, but it was worth it! The snow was so beautiful! The first fall of snow for the season! Getting back on track, we finally reached...

Europe 2012

Aug 13, 2012 - Croatia - Zadar

2nd August 2012 (Bed 57) Today our plan was to get to Zadar with a minor detour to the Krka National Park. Again, we had seen photos of the park which looked very impressive. As we drove into the car park, it was evident that we were not the only people that had heard about the park. We were confronted by hundreds of cars and from the number plates we could see that they came from all around Europe (but we didn’t see any other GB plates). There are several entrances to the National Park, but we chose the Lozovac entrance from where we...

Jul 11, 2012 - Arrive Zadar

Wednesday 11/7/12 Arrive Zadar 24ks 36c Zadar looks to be a very touristic and pretty historic town. On the dock we queue to go through passport control for about 45 mins, very hot already at 8am, 34C. See the photo of the ferraris …noisy engines chugging and throbbing while we waited…they drew a lot of attention, what is so special?? Not a restful night sleeping on the floor in the kiddies playroom , the roaring AC was belting out frosty air all night, Nickie slept in short bursts with the sleeping bag hood over her head…and why was she...
