Aug 17, 2009 - 17th Dalmatia Day…

A & M: Didn’t wake up until 10.30 – caught up on missing previous nights sleep. There was so much shade with the trees it kept the van cool until early morning, which was bliss. A hot van isn’t always the nicest place to sleep in this weather! A glorious day with spectacular scenery, truly breath taking along the Dalmatia coastal road and National Park. So with the sun shining and barely a cloud in the sky the scene was set. This has to be the very best coastal drive we have ever done and will take some beating if it ever can be beaten?...

May 13, 2009 - Starting south

Sunday 10th May. Leaving early we followed the coastline north to the largest port and one of the biggest cities in Croatia, Rijeka, which sits in a fold in the mountains and has a long coastal frontage. Reading the travel guides we knew that it was a sprawling modern city with large 19th century office buildings in the centre but it did not quite describe the industrial buildings and ship building yards that line the road for miles.
