Sep 3, 2018 - Northern Adriatic

Thursday 23 August Headed off trying to make the most of the morning breeze (which completely subsided when we got out there) and anchored on the island of Cres at a bay called Luka Ustrine. Very nice indeed. Friday 24 August Got up early to take the 09:00 swinging bridge at Osor. The canal is only around 50 meters long and the swinging bridge was manually winched open. Some 20+ passed through the canal northwards and 3 of us going south. About 1.5 miles from Osor we saw a service station to proceed to get diesel (at a very good price...

Jul 2, 2012 - From Bled to Novalja (June 20th-July 2nd)

The next day I left Bled. I had to stop a few towns down because my derailer was meesed up. It had been over used. Anyways after that everything went gereat and I went to preserje to meet with my next host, Petra. She was a super nice girl who had been doing a lot of traveling herself and if you walked around her apartment you could see all the cool souvenirs she had. We chatted for a while and she recommended i got to this place called Svelika Planina. So after chatting we went to bed.  The next morning  I took off to Svelika Planina. It...

Sep 20, 2008 - Croatia once more

A few days ago we headed back to Croatia, and I visited Plitvice National Park for the 2nd time on this trip. It's a beautiful place and I was happy to return, but it was much colder than just a few weeks ago. The morning we hiked through the waterfalls there was frost on the ground, brrr. We were only there 1 night, then headed to Rab Island, for a day of vacation from our vacation. We stayed at a beautiful hotel called Hotel Imperial, located in a pretty park next to the old town. Rab is a lot like the other islands I visited on the...

May 21, 2007 - Rabba dabba Doo

I hear my friends asking, they're asking, "Michael/hey Mike/yo Stupid, where are the photos of this allegedly lovely Shangri-la-de-da called the Wonderful Island of Rab?" To which my gentle reply is, sod off. My camera died. Something about the battery bay not holding a battery anymore. We talked. So...some highlights for those of you who have not graced these comely countries. Rab is a sizeable island out in the Adriatic that is bald on one side and green and hilly on the other and in between people glow a mysterious orange that is...

Jun 22, 2006 - Cres Island

On a 6 hour ferry to Losinj on Cres Island we met a family of boys who were on the way to the island to watch their Dad sail in a 7 day regata. We learned about school in Croatia, current music and Bart Simpson while we played Uno and pick-up-sticks. We camped for one night, then rode to the other end of the island where we took a 10 minute ferry to Brestova on the mainland. Warrior ants ate through our tent floor making little holes all over - off to find a tarp.

Sep 6, 2005 - Settling in on Krk Island, Croatia

Leaving Slovenia was easy for me. I enjoyed my time there but was ready to move on. I was looking forward to new adventures under the Croatian sun. My first stop was Rijeka, where I stayed for an hour or so before catching my bus to Krk Island. It was hardly enough time to see much of the city, but from what I understood, Rijeka is more of a coming and going point than a tourist hot spot. It appeared somewhat seedy in areas and slightly dirty, so I knew I wouldn't regret not spending more time there. On the bus to Krk Island, I finally...

Jun 1, 2005 - Editorial differences

Lonely PLanet describes Cres Town as resembling an "Italian fishing village" with "pastel terrace houses crowding around the harbour, glinting in the afternoon sun. It's a lazy, sun drenched town." I would describe Cres as an unremarkable town set amidst unspectacular scenery whose fishing village is less Mediterranean charming, and more rusty industrial blight. Ahh, but beauty is apparently all in the eyes of the beholder. Something I was reminded of as I took a stroll along the harbour and stumbled upon a beach full of "naturists". Which...
