Sat morning, we did a quick dash to Dolac market to pick up cheese and bread – we knew we'd have a long day on the road both Plitvice Lakes and after that, on the way to Brtnoglia, We stopped to get money added on to the cell phone we are borrowing from Alan, the travel agent. ... Just as much the perfect day trip as Trakai, I've seen photographs of Plitvice many times before and stopping in Zagreb was partly to let me come here. ... Getting there was strightforward, 8:40 bus from Zagreb to Split stopping at plitvice about halfway there. ... The Plitvice Lakes are a series of 16 "turquoise" (all the brochures say that and it sounds corny, but its true) lakes that flow, via waterfalls, one into the next, with one waterfall (the biggest, 78m or so) coming in from the side. ... "The area of Plitvice Lakes, declared a National Park in 1949 is a valley situated between high forested mountains in which lies, one below another, a string of sixteen beautiful lakes and tarns of crystal blue-green color. ...
