Thursday, Sept 5 First morning in Croatia...blue skies, barking truffle--hunting dogs, great breakfast and good coffee! They even had warm chocolate croissants. Life is good! Barbara gave us a history lesson as we drove for about an hour through the interior of the Istrian peninsula to Pula...a very important sea port. The area is known today as the new Tuscany. The economy is driven by tourism...which began to be developed in the old Yugoslavia in the 80's. Lots of resorts and camping areas. Many German and Italian tourists. The rocky...

Wednesday, September 4 Happy birthday, Anne! Another good European breakfast...even chocolate croissants! First stop was a docent led visit to a WWI museum. So much information by a very knowledgeable man who was in the Yugoslavian Army in the 70's. He explained in great detail the various campaigns...so much bloodshed for so little. The regime changes, the land reallocations, the family displacements...something that I feel so fortunate not to have experienced first hand.
