May 13, 2012 - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The Good - it is a very nice but very quite little town. That is mainly because the season has not started yet. I did manage to walk a lot and saw ALL of the sights in Bol, some more than once. Timed my Sunday morning coffee with the crew back home, well not really but I did have a latte since it was Sunday. Stopped in a very nice local winery and had a glass of very nice and reasonable wine - a bit more than I've paying - like $3 for a GLASS. Had a lovely dinner, fresh fish, at a little place just up from where I am staying and chatted...

May 12, 2012 - The Beach

I finally did it - made it to the beach and what a beautiful location. To begin with the walk is through pine trees, a different look than palm trees. It is a paved path all the way through but is quite a hike from where I am staying. All along the paved path are beautiful trees and carvings made from the famous stone from the island. You really don't mind the walk. It actually wasn't bad until coming home and having to climb the hill to get back to my place in the heat of the afternoon. Back to the beach. The water is unbelievably clear. I...

May 11, 2012 - Paradise after a Hectic Start

The day started a bit hectic and is going to finish that way. This is my second journal attempt as I just lost the entire first one. Must save more often. So why a hectic start. I walked to the ferry this morning, about 25 minutes straight walking but since I had enough time I shopped and had coffee and just generally had a relaxing time. Relaxing that is until about 25 minutes before the ferry was to leave I discovered I did not have my passport with me. Panic, although I knew where it was set in. I found a taxi driver to take me but he...

Jun 13, 2010 - Bol

We landed on Brac Island yesterday via ferry from Split. We then drove to a little village called Bol. Its claim to fame is that it has the best beach in Croatia. Got our hotel and after settling in we hit the beach. Went into the little village for dinner, about 1.5 km. Will stay here until Monday and then head for Havar (we think).

2010 VACATION

Jun 13, 2010 - Brac, the Funky Donkey, and our last days all four of us!

The Funky Donkey Hostel has the most hilarious place yet. It is run by a once employee of the Booze and Snooze, Vinko, who can probably can be best described as lawyer by day and hostel owner/alcoholic/life of the party by night. We enjoyed three amazing days in Brac where we got to finally got some serious work done on our tans and enjoy the world pass by. Each day consisted of much of the same. Sleep in, put on the bathers and head down to the main port to grab fruit from the fruit market. You could grab 2 apples and 2 oranges for 4 Kunas...

May 20, 2010 - Bol

Today we planned a trip to the island of Brac. This involved first a ferry, and then a bus trip from the port of Supetar to the town of Bol, the site of famous Zlatni Rat beach. This beach figures prominently in many of Croatia’s travel promotions. A beautiful tree-lined promenade leads from the town to the beach. It is over 1 km long. The beach at Zlatni Rat, like most of those along the Dalmation coast, is rocky. Perhaps if we come back in 1 million years, there will be sand. We enjoyed lunch at a restaurant on the promenade. There is a...

Sep 14, 2005 - Off to Korcula Island...Staying at the Happy House

I felt a little out of it when I got on the ferry to Korcula Island. I kind of wanted to be left alone, but I ran into a guy I met the day before from Montreal named Andrew as I was boarding and he just kept talking. He had struck up a conversation with a girl near us as well. Katrin was her name and she was born in the Czech Republic but moved to Australia as a child. She had been living and working in London for a couple of years but would soon return to Sydney for good. She was used to traveling alone, and prefers it. I could tell I...

Jul 23, 2005 - Leaving Venice...boarding Sea Dream II

Well, today was our last day in lovely Venice. Started the day by having breakfast in the hotel....25euros each...everything is so expensive!! Then we went to the Doge Palace...I told you that we did that yesterday but we were actually in St. Mark's Palace...that's what happens when you only get a few hours of sleep a night. The Doge Palace was exceptional! Val and I had shared a headset while Helgi and Norm wandered along by themselves. Then we headed back to the hotel to move our luggage for transport to the ship. So we only had a half...
