Feb 10, 2008 - Statues, waterfalls and panela in San Agustin
San Agustin itself was a bit of a disappointment - it was bigger and more touristy than we'd expected, but the area surrounding it is incredible! We spent a very interesting afternoon looking around the nearest archeological site, with a guide who was able to point out all the things about the many, many statues that we would otherwise have missed (and also offered us land for sale and a whole range of other services, including hallucenagenic shaman rituals, and lessons in picking magic mushrooms and purifying cocaine! - only in Colombia!!!).San Agustin itself was a bit of a disappointment - it was bigger and more touristy than we'd expected, but the area surrounding it is incredible! Luckily, a shared taxi roared around the corner heading for San Agustín, full with 5 people and the driver. ... I don't know how we, or more specifically I, managed to fit into that taxi.It was a sunny and warm day when I left Popayán for San Agustin at 11am.
