The weather was all over the board today - cloudy, overcast, we drove through fog as we climbed in altitude, and beautiful clear skies at the lake. The breakfast buffet was nice at this hotel. They had good scrambled eggs with ham, an omelet station, tangerine juice, plus all of the regular cheeses, meats, cereal, pastries, etc. The breakfast area was a covered open air restaurant. Feb 12, 2015 - A Trip to Guatape, Colombia (SA)

Today we got a late start for our trip to Guatape. Pronunced 'Guad a PAY'. Be sure to accent the last syllable or no one recognizes it. We start off from San Antonio to Rionegro. In Rionegro we can't find a bus to take us on to Guatape. There is not one single bus station in Rionegro but many scattered around the town. We walk from one to one and are finally directed to 'the galeria'. We don't know what the galeria is but keep following pointing fingers and waving arms to an area where they sell construction supplies. We are told this is...

Jun 27, 2012 - Fishing in drug lord territory

Short hop on the truck to a town of Guatape set on the side of a dam - the original town was moved in the late 70's so now it is a holiday resort for people from Medillin and surrounds. The tops of the mountains are still above water so it makes for a very picturesque place. Just our side of the town is the ,sugarloaf' mountain El Penol we stopped to climb it along with hoards of locals- our truck became a tourist attraction for a while. The mountain has 740 steps to the top and I climbed everyone of them - not too bad! Must be getting used...
