May 3, 2005 - Walnut Grove, Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge

Anna reporting: Inspired by the tales of other travellers at Sean's GH we decided to do even more trekking before heading back to Lijiang. This time we descended down the side of the gorge along a steep path right down to the Yangtze river. About half way down we came a sign informing us that the path down to the river had been constructed and maintained by a local family and we were asked to make a contribution of 10 Yuan each for it's upkeep. May 2, 2005 - Trekking the Tiger Day 2

An early morning awakening from the animal inhabitants of Tea Horse GH started our second day in the mountains. None of us had managed to get much sleep after last nights antics but we were raring to go after a slap up breakfast (the hash browns here are simply beautiful). We had an easy walk compared to yesterday but it still took over five hours to reach our next destination on another extremely hot day. This was on way thru Tiger Leaping Gorge! From written journal: 11-5 thru 8 On a "sleeper" bus to Mengla-Laos border town and in cramped quarters. The past week has been quite a variety of bus trips. Starting in Chengdu with a very posh, air conditioned, with W.C.. and video - Jackie Chan movie - which in the middle of it and about 3 hours out and about 3/4 up a mountain pass this bus broke down!
