when we arrived in Dali yesterday morning at 6am, it was pitch black outside (with a sky FULL of stars). ... Quite a big country to only have 1 time zone! Ok, so day 1 in Dali consisted of mainly wandering around the city, having breakfast at the Tibetan Cafe and Lodge (as well as a late snack of apple crumble--yumm!). ... Matthias and Kay had just been in Lijiang, so we talked about that for awhile since I have been debating whether to head up to Lijiang and the Tiger Leaping Gorge, or whether to head off to Thailand after Dali. ... It was quite a peaceful place, with the exception of tourguides using loud speakers and carrying flags!! Next, we hopped on our bikes and went around 18km to Xizhou - a small village north of Dali that has preserved the true Bai architecture (the Bai people are the main inhabitants of the area). ... Travelling to Dali today which is northwest of Kunming at the start of the Himalayas, its supposed to be a cool ancient city, with a good laid back atmos. ...
