Xian The night train ride was an interesting experience. The shopping pushed our arrival to the Beijing train station a tad bit late...surprise! The porters were amazing as they ran through the station to platform 6 with all of our luggage. It include negotiating a series stairs and escalators. Our sleeper car was crowded with French and German Students on a school trip. It was cozy with the six of us in a 4 bed berth. Oct 17, 2007 - Day 4 Oct 17th

We arrived in Xian this morning around 8am and were taken to our hotel. It wasn't ready so we immediately headed off to tour the city wall of Xian. You can rent bikes and ride the entire 14k distance of the wall. It was really cool to take our time and city the different views along the way. Linda and I grabbed lunch afterwards at a really fancy mall near the hotel. The group met up that night to view a cultural show. It was a mix of traditional instruments mixed with dance. This was just a short stop for the day. We came here to see the three gorges and although the place looks cool we were in a bit of a rush and well... we didn't want to have to take the 2 days it would take to see it when we were going to ferry away right beside it. Three gorges is the massive power project where they are damming the Yangsi which will provide 3% of the countries power... that's like power to 30,000,000 people!
