We started the day with a visit to Yangzhou University's College of Tourism and Food Science. A very modern campus and gracious administrators. We particularly liked watching a senior student show a freshman how to fold dumplings. We also liked these wonderful little sculptures made with flour paste. Really creative. In the late afternoon we went for a long walk through a beautiful park with gorgeous flowers and landscaping. Today Peggy and I mastered the trains! The Shanghai station was very spiffy - modern, clean and easily decipherable. The train ride to Yangzhou was about 5 hours long, but it gave us the opportunity to observe some of the rural and suburban Chinese landscape. I sat next to a very charming, friendly and talkative gentleman, who turned out to have been a harbormaster in Shanghai. (I don't want to delude you that my Chinese skills have gotten that good - he spoke English very well.) What are the odds that I would run into someone in the...Jump to full entry
