Jan 17, 2008 - My first few days in Nanjing

This entry is going to be a little long because I am trying to cover three days in one, so feel free to skip over anything unbearably mundane. Although the directions I had from Shanghai to Nanjing (where I will be living this semester) seemed complicated: I had to take the Maglev (magnetic-elevated train) to the metro station, take line 8 to peoples square, transfer to line 1 to the train station, and buy a train ticket to Nanjing all in Chinese! 今天由上海乘火車來到南京。南京雖曾六朝建都,但它給我的第一印相卻讓人有點失望。出得車站就有一大堆要你參加一日遊,住旅館,賣地圖等等的小販圍隴上來,讓人透不過氣來,一路上可見到不少乞討的老人及婦懦 。可能是因為在上海呆了一陣子現在不習慣了吧。 下午乘公交車到夫子廟一帶逛了一陣,吃了南京著名的鹽水鴨,獅子頭,百頁黃豆鴨等菜,口味的確不俗。也嘗了百年老店"蔣有記"的牛肉,味道不錯。之後又順道逛了秦淮河,夜景迷人,現在頗能体會出國語老歌"秦淮河畔"所描寫的意境。 We arrived Nanjing by train in the afternoon. ...
