Oct 15, 2009 - Hong Kong Day 1

We arrived into Hong Kong at 10:30am & we were met at the airport by our airport transfer contact. ... The lights of Hong Kong are fantastic & it was a good orientation for us. ... We were let off at a small fishing village on the eastern end of the harbour whwere we made our way through fish market stalls (all full of various luive seafood) before we sat down for a great seafood meal with 8 other tourists - one couple were from Morphett Vale in Adelaide.We arrived into Hong Kong at 10:30am & we were met at the airport by our airport transfer contact. ... We did a little last minute shopping in Montmatre before being picked up at 12:30pm for our afternoon flight to Frankfurt and then on to Hong Kong The transfer at Frankfurt was tight and by the time we transferred terminals, cleared security & passport control we walked straight onto the plane which was already half loaded with passengers. ... Oct 10, 2009 - Hong Kong - Oct 8-10

October 8 Today we left Chengdu and were heading to Hong Kong, the long way round! For some reason, cost I imagine, we decided to fly into Guangzhou and take the train to HK. ... That itself was easy, once we got there! From there, the train takes just under 2 hours, clearing Chinese immigration one end and then Hong Kong the other – despite HK being now Chinese, the border and entry requirements are still different and even meant we needed double entry visas for China despite never really leaving Chinese soil! Once at Hung Hom station on HK, we jumped in a taxi and after nearly finding our hotel and doing a lap of the block, we found the Alisan Guest House and checked in. ... Part of me suspects a little of museum overload and I think we’re both slowly reaching that conclusion! From the museum, we headed out to the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade which spans the southern tip of Kowloon overlooking Victoria Harbour over to Hong Kong Island. ...

We finished our tour in Hong Kong. ... It was a 15 hour train ride to Hong Kong and we were pleased that the train was a lot cleaner and nicer than the last. ... We were disappointed the bargains weren't as cheap in Hong Kong as mainland China but we did a bit of shopping anyway. ... Determined to take every form of transport possible that day we caught another bus to the other side of the island, then a ferry back to central Hong Kong and then a Star ferry back to Kowloon and our hotel – it was a great day out. ... Its speciality was Bird's Nest which we had no idea what it was (and we weren't going to sample it for $2,000 Hong Kong dollars) so we asked the waiter and he said it is made from bird's saliva and is great for anti-ageing. ...

Last stop of the day was the mosque and bazaar. It wasn’t the same as Hong Kong - that was definitely therapeutic, this was more like relaxation. ...
