Jun 28, 2005 - Arrival in Datong

Depart: Yingcheng, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China Arrive: Datong, Shanxi Province, China - Again, another long drive day. We finally arrived in Datong in the early evening, the first thing we noticed in the hotel were a group of other foriegn tourists, something we had not seen since Xi'an. This reminded of us of our proximity to Beijing which was only around 200km to the East. Alex, Darren, John and I decided to head across the street for some dinner, and encountered something else we had not seen for a while - rain! After soaking...

Oct 18, 2004 - Datong, China

We left Beijing this am and arrived here at 4:30 pm getting tickets at the rail station proved to be a hassle, plus the CITS (China International Travel Service), altho helpful and speak English could not get tickets beyond Xi'an where we already have reservations for 2 nites in the hostel. We ended up booking a day of touring with CITS to see Hanging Temple (60 km away) and Grottos...both about 1400 years old...he also helped us with overnite at nearby hotel. This turned out to be good since we needed to return to station for our tickets...
