This weekend we took a two day group trip to Chengde, which is a town (well, city really) about 3 hours northeast of Beijing. We had a nice comfy bus (perfect for sleeping, which we all did like pros) going in both directions, everyone taking up about 4 seats because it was so big. Although we were there a short time (two days, one night), we made the rounds to the different temples in the area. Apr 9, 2005 - 2 Days in Chengde

Well I decided I needed a weekend away from all of riga morol (have no idea how you spell that saying....) so took off with Darnell to Chengde for the weekend. Darnell is an American woman also teaching at a University here in the city. We left on the 8th spending the night in Beiking then caught the early train into Chengde on Saturday then back to Bejing then Sjz on Sunday. Sep 9, 2004 - Gobbing

Leaving town, so what to do, choice between dead Mao, the temple of Heaven in photogenic sunlight rather than torrential rain, or the biggest Tibetan Buddhist temple - Yonghe Gong. or Lama Temple - outside of Tibet, that happens to be on the Circle line as well. So off we go. People buying bag fulls of incense, and lighting it 30 sticks at a time, though I later found out this was lightweight city folk when it came to incense burning.
