It is on the bus trip to this little town that Ted and I first realize that a hierarchy exists on Chinese roads; how else would we have arrived intact?! Yangshuo is in a land of karst (limestone) peaks, which are covered in green and which poke out of flat rice paddies like giant stalacmites. ... Our flight from Beijing to Guilin (Guanxi province) on China Southern airlines took 3 hours 40 minutes, and afforded us the only views of the Three Gorges that we were going to see. We had cut it from the itinerary to spend more time in other places, like Yangshuo where we were headed on this day. ... Nature at its best. We left Guilin via a four hour stunning boat trip towards Yangshuo, where we will stay for the next few days. ... In Yangshuo the boat stops right in front of a not very attractive tourist market and we were immediately approached by lovely touts. ... We've landed a sweet deal in Yangshuo, staying at the Riverside Retreat - a newly reopened village hotel with huge, gorgeous rooms for hostel prices. ... From Yichang we took a 4 hour bus ride to Wuhan. Yangshuo has become a bit of a backpacker/tourist (both Chinese and foreign) hub of the province. ...
