Guilin, China Thursday 8th June After leaving the large wealthy city of Hangzhou on Wednesday, we caught a 16 hour overnight sleeper train to the city of Guilin. ... The four bunk room was small but comfy and it gave us time to sleep and do a bit of book reading which we never seem to find time to do, unless we are stuck travelling on a train, plane, boat or bus! We made small chat with the two men in our room, as they spoke a little English but they spent most of their time in their friends cabin next door or sleeping so we were able to chill in peace and sleep too! When the train arrived in Guilin on the afternoon of Thurs the 8th, we were glad to get off and make our way to our next destination which actually wasn't Guilin, but a small touristy town an hour and a half from Guilin called Yangshuo. ... We got off of the train and lugged all of our 5 bags to the bus station which luckily for us was outside the train station.Guilin, China Thursday 8th June After leaving the large wealthy city of Hangzhou on Wednesday, we caught a 16 hour overnight sleeper train to the city of Guilin. ... After visiting a few sights in Guilin, Helen reviewed the rough guide and lead the others to a restaurant that was recommended. ... Apr 25, 2006 - Morning Exercises in Guilin
My challenge today was to leave my comfortable Sheraton Guilin hotel room and go for a walk by myself. ... Quite a few walkers and joggers, not chatty girlfriends on their way to Starbucks (none in Guilin) but dutiful workers getting ready for a tough day on the job. ... Mine was the only Western face, I saw no-one but Guiliners for over a half hour. ... Each of us faces his or her own challenges; I will always remember morning exercises in Guilin as one of my favorites. ...

Mar 25, 2006 - disapointing Guilin...
Apparently Chineses are very proud of this city as nested among karsts. Apparently Chineses are very proud of this city as nested among karsts. Feb 15, 2006 - Around China
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly (Chinese New Year FINALLY over February 13th) For those of you who don't like to read a big blurb, here's the short of it: The Good - the people in China are very family oriented and happy, and the kids are well looked after (although they give fire crackers to little kids. Our week in rural China took us from the boarder to Huashen, Nanning, Guilin, Sanjiang, Chengwang, Longsheng, Longyi, to Yangshau (where I am now) and we've stayed in various places from village guesthouse, country inn, hostel, to hotel. ... What I can guarantee is that wherever we were going it would be a long walk or at the top of a zillion limestone steps that were slippery with mud and animal feces. The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly (Chinese New Year FINALLY over February 13th) For those of you who don't like to read a big blurb, here's the short of it: The Good - the people in China are very family oriented and happy, and the kids are well looked after (although they give fire crackers to little kids.
