Jun 4, 2010 - So long for now, Barb and Andy. Safe travelling.
Barb has been doing the writing for my journal, so now she is off home, and the job falls back to me. But thanks for a job well done, Barb. Up at just after 8am this morning. When I got up, Barb had half of their bedding on the line, and the other lot in the machine, even though I told her that I would deal with it after they were gone. She is a good friend, that is for sure. They had everything ready to go, and Rony was to arrive by 9.15, to help get the luggage down the steps. He was here at 8.55, and neither Barb nor I were dressed, but...Jump to full entry

May 6, 2010 - Guandzou
Apr 28, 2010 - Guangzhou
28th April Rudely awakened by a light in my face and my ears being assaulted by traditional chineese music on max volume. 6am time to get off the bus in a place which is deffinately not a coach park but there was a taxi nearby and we had a translation saying we know how much this should cost, please don't take us the long way round. He first driver we showed it to just left but the second accepted the price. The room was alps already ready for us and we went for a shower and nap. We also had a tv with an english speaking channel so were...Jump to full entry
Apr 22, 2010 - Welcome back to Zhaoqing, Barb and Andy.
I got up in good time this morning, to get the final things done, and to get a bus into town, for the airport express bus, to collect the visitors!! On the way past the main bus station, I picked up a couple of cans of coffee drink, and a packet of biscuits. Just like to have a snack on the way. When I got to to where the airport express bus leaves from, there was a lot of work going on next door, at the renovation site for the Star Lake Hotel. There was a huge machine, which was being lifted onto a truck, I suppose to be taken away. It was...Jump to full entry
Feb 6, 2010 - Off to the airport, to see Cheryl off.
Cheryl and I left this morning, to get the bus to the Baiyun airport. We arrived with plenty of time to spare, and spent some time sitting over a coffee, after she had checked in her luggage. When it was time for her to go through to the departure lounge, we had a big hug, and I am sure, both felt a little sad because we had had a good holiday. Next time she comes back, if there is a next time, she will have to stay longer, so we do not have to rush about so much. I got the bus back to Zhaoqing, and went home to chill out, after a long day...Jump to full entry
Feb 5, 2010 - To the Guangzhou Train Station
So....I left Fujian and headed to Guangzhou. I was set to arrive at Guangzhou at 6 am, and had to meet my friend ZhouTian at 6 pm, leaving me a total of twelve hours in Guangzhou to wander by myself. On the bus the bus-driver told me Guangzhou was the last stop, so I could feel free to sleep on the bus for awhile after the bus arrived. This bus-ride I was completely exhausted. I was physically and emotionally and intellectually completely wiped out...I fell asleep right away and didn't wake up until 5:30 when the bus stopped in Guangzhou....Jump to full entry
Jan 10, 2010 - It's Vacation Time! Whoohoo!
YAY! Tomorrow I have my last final and then I am done until February 22nd! Yippeee!! I have been really busy this past week...studying for my finals, saying good-bye to all my foreign friends, and generally reorganizing things after Semester #1 away from home. Sooooo....what's new? Well... A Note on Being American in China: Yesterday I was riding the bus with ZhongXin and she gave me one of her ear pieces for her iPod to listen to and when we were leaving I gave it back to her...and some people on the bus were watching me as...Jump to full entry
Jan 4, 2010 - Guangzhou
We...Jump to full entry
Jan 1, 2010 - Happy New Year!
Hello All!! Happy New Year! Welcome to 2010!! Wow, so much to celebrate on this year. I made it, for one thing. I can live in China. You could, too...maybe. Also, a special thank you to Butch and Sue and my Grandma Bea. I got the Christmas cards, finally. Thanks! :) Right now, I am sitting in my dorm room on my laptop, listening to Chinese folk music, eating Japanese noodles, and drinking a coke. What a wonderful world. :) Last night, I went out with my friends and ate Sichuan style Chinese hotpot. So delicious...When I get back to the...Jump to full entry
Dec 27, 2009 - My big fear...
Do you have any big fears in life? I was just looking at facebook. It happens about once a month where I can't handle it anymore, and so I spend fifteen minutes searching out for a proxy, and then find one then lets me look at my facebook (getting past the Great Chinese Firewall), and then I spend the next hour looking at my friends and their lives and the lives of all the other random people I've met and who now are my facebook friends... But back to the question...Fear... So in a round-about way I will tell you how this question came...Jump to full entry
Dec 23, 2009 - Christmas eve
Wow, time flew by this week! Aside from all the shopping for pearls and such, the most important event of the week was the issue of the visa and the swearing in ceremony at the American Embassy. Allegra will leave China with a Chinese passport and a visa granted to her by the American embassy, and as soon as she arrives on American soil, she will be considered an American citizen. The swearing in ceremony took place in a large room of the embassy, where about 40 families were gathered for this event. Tuesday evening, we took a river boat...Jump to full entry
