Today was another travel day as we made our way eight hours by local bus from The Bao Guo Monastery to Chongqing, China's largest city which has in excess of 30 million people when you consider all its suburbs. ... Would you believe that I got the room all to myself all night! I can't believe it. The staff member came to let me know that we were almost at Chongqing and to switch the ticket back. ... Jun 21, 2007 - The 3 day Yangtze River trip from Chongqing to The Three Gorges Dam, near Yichang
I arrive in Chongqing and am met by the Yangtze River tour company representative, along with John and Brian, two American's who have travelled the Silk Road from the Pakistan border. ... The first day is spent wandering around Chongqing and visiting the the Stillwell Museum, which memoralizes the contribuion of the US General Stillwell to the US-China effort against the Japanese in WWII. ... Welcome to Chongqing. ... On the way, he told me that Chongqing is so big that there are two airports, and it takes over 30 minutes to fly between them, both of which are relatively urban. ... Started the tour to Chongqing watching Arnie movies on bus in chinese! Hilarious and as you would expect pretty easy to follow! Chongqing is our starting point for visiting the famous Three Gorges on the Yangzi River. ... For us, we see it as an easy way to get away from the hustle and bustle of overland travel! Booked first class tickets, but not sure what that really means in China, as we know we are not on a luxury liner!! Chongqing is exceptionally hot. ... We had a pretty good room, nothing flash but at least it was on the top floor (4th), had some essential AC, our own bathroom, and even a TV (all chinese channels though!) There were awesome views as the boat pulled out of built up Chongqing late that night, it was a great place to be. ...
