We took a day tour to Torres del Paine, which Im sure many would regard as a sacrilege, but on limited time it was the best we could do. This was a big highlight of the trip for us both. We arrived in Puerto Natales which is the launch point to go to the torres del paine national park. The people in our hostel were telling us how they had a lot of rain and struggled to keep any clothes dry and how the campsites were infested with rats! we decided to go for it anyway and im really glad we did. we didnt have any rain or see any rats, although we always had to hang our food from trees! Parque National Torres del Paine is internationally known as one of the most beautiful, unspoiled and remote places on the planet. It covers 181,000 hectares on the Seno de Ultima Esperanza (Last Hope Inlet). The highest peak is the Paine Grande at 3050m, though the most recognised peaks are the Cuiernos del Paine, which are featured on most pictures of the park. The Torres (towers) del Paine are the three sheer granite towers. The most populat hike is the 'W'. It takes between three and four days to get through.

Mar 16, 2006 - Puerto Natales

After a five hour bus ride and 1 hour spent at both the Argentine and Chile border controls we finally arrived in Puerto Natales (Dainel the dutch guy and Aaron the american where also keen to walk the W section of the Torres Del Paine walk). Once we found our hostel we made a decision to try and start the walk the next day so with buying food and getting camping equipment there was not much time left in the day. I have to say that for a town so close to a world famous walk I though Puerto Natales was very poorly equiped and very expensive.

We have just spent 4 days trekking through the Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia. The name means "The Place of the Towers" (to all of us it is know as "The Towers of Pain"!) Die etwa zwölfstündige Busfahrt nach Punta Arenas (etwa 100 $) war alles in allem eher von der unbequemeren Sorte gewesen infolge der recht geringen Beinfreiheit. Wie sich wohl diejenigen gefühlt hatten, welche viel grösser als ich meine 1.72 Meter gewesen waren? Diejenigen hatten hoffentlich einen Gangplatz inne gehabt... De retour de mon trek... Ce parc des Torres del Paine est a la hauteur de sa reputation. C'etait vraiment magnifique ! Desolee d'avance pour la tonne de photos que je vais mettre ici, mais pourtant je vous jure que ce n'est qu'une selection, et je n'arrive pas a en mettre moins... Pourtant ca n'avait pas tres bien commence. Feb 6, 2006 - Retour au Chili... pour le parc Torres del Paine

Une rapide mise à jour pour prévenir que je ne serai pas connectée pendant les 4 ou 5 prochains jours. Je pars faire un treck de 4 jours dans l'immense parc Torres del paine. Je te redonne de mes nouvelles dès que je me reconnecte. Me voila de retour après un treck de 7 heures de marche quotidienne en moyenne avec et sans le sac ça dépendait.... Donc départ à 7h du mat, mais en fait le bus qui doit nous mener au parc des Torres tourne 1 heure et demi a Purto Natale pour recuperer du monde. Du coup on arrive là bas à 10h30.
