Aug 19, 2016 - Day 54 Tagish

Day 54 Six Mile River Resort. Drove back to Carcross and up to Emerald Lake. Very beautiful aqua colors caused by calcium carbonate deposits. We had lunch there last trip. Then we stopped at the dessert. Interesting to find sand dunes up here. Had something to do with the glaciers. We hiked around on them for about 45 minutes. Back by the visitor center and back to campground. We're in the restaurant/office for Internet and a beer. Think we'll eat here tonight. It's too funky to pass up. I'll post the results later.

Alaska...Again 2016

Aug 18, 2016 - Day 53 Tagish, YT

Day 53 Six Mile River Resort. When we first drove in I thought we had made a terrible mistake. Very, very funky. Only maybe 8 campsites in a circle around a grassy field. Turns out to be a very interesting place. The restaurant associated with it is NICE. All sorts of license plates, old washing machines, moose antlers, old boat motors, old meat grinders, etc. Anyway, the drive over from Skagway was very, very foggy. Couldn't see anything til we got past the Canadian border. We were in BC for awhile and then into Yukon. Things lifted after...

Alaska...Again 2016

Aug 11, 2015 - Tagish, YT – Six Mile River Resort

Left Alaska for the second time today. Decided to take the short cut out of Alaska, so took the ferry from Haines to Skagway. The trip was real smooth and the scenery was pretty, but it could have been better if the weather had cooperated. I’ve come to think that Alaska’s summer climate is all rain/mist and cool temperatures, except at Fairbanks. It can get warm there and the sun shines, although it could be blocked by smoke from forest fires. Bridget had to ride in the camper for the ferry crossing. Rog and I had to be up on the passenger...

Retired at Last!

Jun 6, 2012 - Tagish, Yukon Territory

AM-PM, 51 Degrees and Drizzle, Then Rain Watson Lake, Yukon to Tagish, Yukon, 12:45 PM to 6:15 PM, 242 Miles, 5.5 Hours Stayed at Tagish Campground We got a late start today because it took 3 hours for Tim to figure out why the motor home wouldn’t start, and another hour to put everything back together. He is extremely handy, but having a vehicle so totally self contained means there are a lot of systems, a lot of fuses, a lot of everything! It turned out to be something simple, just a matter of finding it. It really was a very uneventful...

Drizzly and cool all day Did not Travel, Stayed in Town at Watson Lake Stayed Second Night in Watson Lake Campground We took a day to relax and sleep in this morning. We finally fixed a big brunch together and left the RV park about noon. Not very exciting activities…we made a stop to fill our propane tank, and then we headed to the library for internet service. At 3 PM, we went to the planetarium’s Northern Light Show. OK, put us in a dark room in reclining chairs with soft music and project swirling lights at us…you got it, nappy time....

It started raining last night and continued trough out the day. I spent the morning updating the trip log and posting pictures from Chilkoot River. Hope you are not satiated by bears as we are headed to Hyder, Ak and Fish Creek for the Chum Salmon run and the Brown bears that are feeding on them. Hyder and Stewart BC are celebrating Bear Days with an art festival. We should get there by Sunday. Kathy spent the morning and afternoon cruising the shops in Skagway with tourists from the cruise ship. We visited Dyea historic starting point of...
