Aug 14, 2011 - A Rainy Day at Million Dollar Falls, Yukon

Yesterday's good weather was a distant memory. On this day it was wet and cold. Determined to build a fire despite the rain, we hung a tarp. The excitement of the day was the group of kayakers. They put in below the falls and went over a sizeable drop. Then it appeared that they took out by climbing up the gorge wall. We did learn that this was a holiday weekend, Discovery Day. It recognizes the striking of gold in the Yukon.

Alaska Bound

Aug 12, 2011 - Million Dollar Falls, Yukon

The drive along Kluane Lake was lovely with views of the snow clad Kluane Range. Sheep Mountain (now Tachal Dhal - "skin scraper mountain") is the primary winter and spring range and lambing area of a Dall sheep population. During today's drive, we crossed Bear Creek Summit, 3294', and Boutillier Summit, 3293', the 1st and 2nd highest points on Alcan Highway between Fairbanks and Whitehorse.
