Beaver Creek our overnight stop is one of two sites where Alaska Highway construction crews working from opposite direction connected the highway in 1942. We arrived in Haines Junction and pulled in to the only tire shop in this small community. ... We got into Haines Junction about 5:00pm and after dinner we went to the local watering hole for a beer to relax before getting some sleep. ... While at the bar we meet a local Haines Junction lady who has figured out that Mexico from December to March is the best place to be when it is minus 40 degrees celsius. ... Miles Today: 131 Total Miles: 6846 Should have been an easy and beautiful drive to Haines AK today, but another problem hit Don and Alice Faye when their rig started over heating. We ended up staying 2 nights in Haines Junction YT while Don waited on a tow truck to haul his rig to Whitehorse YT for repairs. ... Well, we changed our minds and decided to bypass Congdon Campground on Lake Kluane and continue on to Haines Junction so we would have all of the bad construction behind us. ... 5 hours to travel the first 50 miles of it and then it got worse but we still made it into Haines Junction after a 6 hour trip to drive 204 miles. ... After leaving Tok we had a 100 mile ride to the Canadian border. We made it thru customs with no problems and headed south towards Haines Junction. ...
