May 29, 2013 - Catch Up
May 24, 2013 We left Kalispell around 8 am with cloudy weather and misting rain. Took a little over an hour too reach the border crossing at Rooseville, BC. My luck was still there as we had a kid into his third day of work and he was gungho. Don’t think he had ever seen a shotgun. Asked if I had more guns at home and I told him yes and how many. Wanted to know if I expecting a war?! Got on our way after 45 minutes. The roads here in Canada, so far have been better than our roads. Took us a little over 6 hours for the drive to Lake...

May 23, 2012 - Watson Lake, YT to Carmacks, YT
Today we drove from Watson Lake, YT to Carmacks, YT. I have added a picture of last nights sunset at 10:30 PM PST. When we get to Fairbanks, Alaska sunset should be around 11:00 PM AST and sunrise should be around 2:00 AM AST with not much dark in between. The road today was great. We were able to run between 60 & 65 miles per hour with beautiful mountains scenery all day long. We are now parked at the Carmacks Hotel and RV park for the night. Having dinner shortly and then we are going over to the Gold Mine lounge for cool pint. Tomorrow...

Aug 15, 2011 - Carmacks, YT - Traveling the Klondike Loop
(Ron Writing) We filled Hercules with gas this morning before leaving Dawson City heading southeast on the Klondike Loop Highway. The gasoline price was the second highest price we’ve paid so far on this trip. I guess they think everyone has a pocket full of gold here! This was mostly a driving day. The first couple hours on the road we drove through the rain and several miles of that was on dirt/gravel where the asphalt had been ripped out and graded. So the truck and trailer look like real Yukon Territory vehicles again – full of dirt! It...

Jun 15, 2011 - Klondike Highway to Carmacks, Yukon
We were on the road by 10. It was a beautiful day with mostly blue skies. We drove north from Skagway slowly thereby allowing time to stop at pullouts for photo opportunities. I took many of the same pictures as I took driving down to Skagway, but this time the sky was friendlier. We crossed the border back into British Columbia before crossing back into the Yukon. The border crossing went very well. Again, we were asked about our purpose. Go figure! We're pulling a 31' trailer. What else would we be doing? Oh, that's right. It's that drug...

Aug 14, 2010 - leaving for Dawson City Yukon
Ok here we go !!Not to bad, got to bed around 12:30am and back up around 9:30am. We think we might leave today to head for Dawson City. Rick has a few things he wants to do with the MH and car and I have to pick up a few things from the store. Finally got everything done and got fuel again for the MH had lunch and we are heading out to head for Dawson City. It will take at least two - three days to get there. Of course were in no rush other wise we could make it in a day. But that is with a lot of hours driving. We drove to Carmack Yukon...

Aug 6, 2010 - Leaving Dawson City in the Rain
Friday August 6 – The rain continued much of the night and we decided to forgo spending a day in Dawson City since we had done that in 2005. There is a post of Dawson City on our old blog from then that is viewable at http://travelintracys.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2005-07-09T01%3A15%3A00-04%3A00 and look at July 5 through July 9. That link should open to the correct spot. After spending a couple of hours trying to get Dick’s e-mail to open again we finally set up a new Skype account for Pat’s PC and called PTD, our internet provider,...

Jul 29, 2010 - Carmacks
Thursday 29 July 2010 Left the Montana RV Park at 9.30, after emptying out the waste tanks. Then went into Carcross township; at the Information Centre we discovered that it was the 110th anniversary of the driving of the spike for the railway from Skagway over the White Pass into Carcross. They were making quite a thing of it; had two big cakes to share with visitors and they were expecting tourists and an official of the parliament to arrive on the train from Skagway later in the afternoon. Carcross was one of the stops on the way to the...

Jun 19, 2010 - June 18th, Fox Lake Campground
We broke camp at the Whitehorse Walmart at 9 o'clock. We went back to the tourist info building and talked there a little bit. We decided to take the Millenium trail that took us to the fish ladder and past the old stern wheeler boat and back around using both sides of the Yukon River. The trail was about 3 miles long. We then drove out of town and took the Klondike Loop road that will lead us to Dawson City. We stopped and camped at the Fox Lake campground. Tori and Terry fished several time in Fox Lake with no success. It never really...

Jun 16, 2010 - Dawson City to Carmacks
Today was not super long, but the monotony of the scenery certainly made it feel longer (I nuked about 5 photos....they ALL looked the same!). We did cross two bridges - over the Stewart and Pelly rivers - before arriving in Carmacks. This was a stop with the RV tour 3 years ago on the way home. It's a little RV park that is right on the Yukon River...very cool! It's pretty deep in the main channel and is running fast!

Jul 4, 2009 - On the Klondike Highway to Carmacks
We left Whitehorse and headed up the Klondike Highway. The North Klondike Highway heads north from Whitehorse to Dawson City and follows the line(near enough) of the overland route taken by early pioneers and gold seekers (winter route) and follows closely the Yukon River. We had great views of the Yukon River and the conglomerate rock formation. We stopped at the Braeburn Lodge to pick up for Tony a cinnamon bun which was large enough to feed 4 people. We also stopped at the remains of the Montague House, which was a typical early-day...

Aug 2, 2007 - Aug 2, South on the Klondike Hwy
The Yukon: Larger than life. That's their slogan. We traveled south on the dull, rough, gravelly at times Klondike Highway. The wild flowers are done so weeds line the highway. But dull wilderness roads have surprises on the way. From an overview we saw a beautiful view of the Tintina trench. A sweeping view of a geological feature that extends hundreds of miles across AK and the YK- the largest fault line in North America. It is a great bird migratory way in the spring and fall, But it's still summer even if the air tells you it's getting...

Aug 2, 2007 - To Carmacks, YT (Mayo)
Today is an interesting road trip day. We are on the Klondike Highway and it feels remote. Most of the road is paved with some frost heaves. The new ones are marked. You are supposed to remember the old ones. There is some loose gravel. The Tintina Trench is the largest fault in North America even if it doesn't look like much from the overlook. A sign explains how the land Dawson is on was once south of Mayo. The land shift changed the direction of the Yukon River. This is pretty impressive even if it was eight million years ago. On our...
