Apr 9, 2013 - We are home!
Well we made it home to winter!! Don is so happy (not). After getting the laundry done and the house closed up we left Mission on Apr 1st. The temperature was in the 80's (or 29C). Don's mom (Marie) who has been visiting us for the last 2 weeks was travelling with us. We drove to Corpus Christi and had lunch with our niece Terra and Shaun who were visiting there for a couple of weeks. We then drove up to the Aransas Wildlife Refuge where we seen some deer, a lone alligator, a racoon, a possum, some javalinas and birds. There was not an...

Nov 30, 2012 - Getting ready to leave
Well this is our last weekend at home and we are going to celebrate Christmas with our family. As you can see by the photos we have gotten a lot of snow and someone (I won't mention any names) has been complaining about still being here. We will be leaving on Tuesday (Dec 4th) to head for Oklahoma where we will visit our friends Jim & Judy for a couple of days. We plan to be in Mission on Dec 8th unless we stop somewhere else. Once we are out of the snow Don isn't in as much of a hurry (oops I mentioned a name). We have had a very busy...

Oct 12, 2012 - Moose Jaw, Saskachewan, Canada
The drive from Glacier National Park to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, took us from the hilly, forested, curvy road up the east side of Glacier and nearby Waterton Provincial Park in Alberta to the largely flat open terrain of the Saskatchewan plains. It was harvest time and we passed countless rolls of hay, some stacked up, other still scattered in the fields. We noted many "fields" of wind turbines as well, slowly turning in the breeze. It was a long day's drive and we were happy to arrive at the hotel located about a block from the Senior...

Sep 24, 2012 - Saskatoon
We drove from Drumheller to Saskatoon on Friday and set up in Gordon Howard Park. Yes, the park is named after hockey immortal Gordie Howe. It is a nice campground with the only drawback being no sewer. Saskatoon, a city of about a quarter million, has turned out to be a pleasant place to visit. I am especially pleased with the bike path that runs on either side of the Lower Saskatchewan River. I did a training run along the path and through the campus of the University of Saskatchewan. Sue had an opportunity to taste some Saskatoon berries...

Saturday, August 18 - Elk Island National Park We slept in until almost 8, then broke camp before breakfast. We ate our muffins and milk and blueberries by the lake, then walked along a boardwalk beside the lake. We drove the park roads, including Bison Loop. We were here in 1982, when Darren was a baby, Evan was 2 1/2, and Larry was attending a conference in Edmonton. It was late June, and we went out to Elk Island from the city one evening and saw the bison. We stayed until sunset, not realizing how late it was getting! Then, as now, we...

Aug 18, 2012 - A full day
Regina, SK. We had a very full day. Government House was constructed as a residence for the Lieutenant-Governor of the North-West Territories. The home has now been made into a museum. We just happened to show up the same day as the annual antiques auction so 1) it was hard to find a parking place, 2) we were the only ones touring the museum. The rooms are done up quite well and we learned a few things. We admired the Salesman Chairs. The front legs were shorter than the back so the salesman tended to slip forward. If he tried to slide...

Aug 17, 2012 - Tunnels
Regina, SK. Today we did the Tunnels of Moose Jaw tours. Unfortunately they don't allow photos so we had to borrow some. In the early 1900′s most of the large buildings in Moose Jaw were heated by steam. Engineers who tended the heating systems in the basements created a network of tunnels linking the buildings together so they could easily move themselves and equipment between buildings without freezing in the cold prairie winters. These tunnels were also utilized by others. The first tour was about the young Chinese men brought to Canada...

Aug 16, 2012 - Mac the Moose
Regina, SK. This was another travel day. We are still in prairie country and again drove past immense fields of wheat and huge piles of hay bales. There are a lot of pothole lakes in this area, too. Our diversion for the day was in Moose Jaw. Residents of Moose Jaw are known as Moose Javians. Moose Jaw is also the birthplace of Art Linkletter, is a NATO flight training school, and is home to the Snowbirds, Canada's military aerobatic air show flight demonstration team. The major draw for us, however, is the fact that Moose Jaw is home to...

Aug 15, 2012 - Cowboy Country
Swift Water, SK. We left Alberta and are now in Saskatchewan. There are no mountains here. Instead we see huge fields full of hay bales, acres and acres of golden wheat, ranches with rolling grass-covered hills chock-full of cattle and horses, and a plentiful amount of pothole lakes. En route to our destination, we got tired of the plains and took a detour to the hills. Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is an interprovincial park straddling the southern Alberta-Saskatchewan border. It is Canada's first and only interprovincial park. After...

Aug 8, 2012 - Days 19 thru 25 - Lloydminister, SK
Well we have a bit of catching up to do. There is no internet in Banff or Jasper, although Parks Canada charges more than any other campground that has both internet and cable TV. Oh well that's Canada for you. The mountains were spectacular to say the least. In Banff we were in site # 747; it is some huge campground but not as many animals as Jasper. In Jasper we saw many Elk with young, Black bears with cubs, a large coyote or a small wolf traveling very fast. The elk are as tame as dogs or cats. The pictures I have attached were taken on...

Jul 29, 2012 - Day 14 - Edmonton to Regina
We had breakfast with John & Sandra Hulleman at Cora`s Restaurant. We have never eaten at one of these places before and the food is mountains of beautifully prepared fruit with eggs, waffles or pancakes. Beautiful and good for you. On the road by 11am and had an uneventful drive to Regina. Okay Tracy - I am caught up now.
