May 28, 2015 - Day 7 - Calgary AB to Drumheller AB To Outlook SK

After breakfast this morning we said our good byes to Jason and Maan, packed the car and headed off to Drumheller AB. It was a short drive, about 1.5 hours or 119 Km Northeast of Calgary. Drumheller is a town within the Red Deer River valley in the Bad Lands of East Central Alberta. We found a place to park on the main street and just walked up and down the street looking at the various sites as well as taking pictures. We fuel up the car before heading out to the museum. The Royal Tyrrell Museum was another 6 km north of Drumheller on N...

Jun 29, 2013 - Kindersley (SK) to Outlook (SK)

Last night the campground was very noisy. It appears that the youth that work on farms in Western Saskatchewan go to Kindersley on Canada Day weekend to show off their big trucks, then get drunk. It made us long for the quiet campsites we had in the Rockies. The forecast was for hot weather and headwinds from the East, so we all agreed to aim to leave at 6:00 am. At 5:30 am, I had my usual hot oatmeal, banana and coffee, supplemented with scrambled eggs for breakfast. John and I left at 5:45 am and soon caught up with Harry as we re-joined...

Day Eighteen-July 8 Outlook 170k I CAN SEE FOR MILES AND MILES AND MILES, oh yeah The weather forecast for today was more head wind and more hot. Old Bob O (Obo) and I decided last night that we would break out of camp early and have breakfast at Tim Horton’s. We would be on the road a little earlier and might be able to beat some of the heat. We were on the road by 6:45. We were not the first on the road; others were thinking like we were. It was already starting to heat up. There was a head wind. Obo and I tried to pace line; to draft....

July 10 - Day 18 – Kindersley –Outlook K’s 163.50 k Time 4h40m Average speed: 35.06/H T to D 1617 k Top speed today 62.44 Our first century ride of the tour. That’s a 100 mile or 160 k ride and something that is always a challenge to achieve. Lots of sore butts in camp tonight. Another fast ride with high winds at our back. This is the third day in a row that we have had favourable winds. We did a 5 k stretch out of Rosetown with the wind hitting us from the side and that really made us appreciate the rest of the ride with it on our...

Jun 28, 2009 - Looking back a few days.....

Hi Friends I guess I was so excited to mention the VW that we purchased that I completely forgot to write about our trip to Ardath Sask to view our property on June 21st! Oh well better late than never. Yes, it rained on our way east – actually it poured! Sometimes it was so intense that many people pulled over due to the lack of visibility. It may not have been the weather we were hoping for, but the farmers were very happy. A few people we spoke to said that if it hadn’t rained this weekend they would have lost everything! So we are glad...

Mar 25, 2009 - Greetings from Watertown, South Dakota

Well we have really been on the move since we left Tucson. We travelled north in New Mexico. Lots of desert and rocks. Only if there is irrigation did we see things growing other than Juniper. We stopped in Sorocco for the night and did the Walmart thing - it worked really well. 6 other units were also there. We headed on through Albuquerque and started looking for gas almost too late! It was about 7am and nothing was open - stopped at a little place and the gas station was abandoned! You can always count on Rod - he had a little reserve...

Mar 20, 2009 - Tucson

Greatings from Tucson We have booked into Rincon Country East RV Resort in Tucson - it is beautiful! And we got a great deal - best rate so far - something about if we took one of the small lots - it is just as big as the one we had in Mesa - even a cement driveway for the truck. We have been on the go for the two days we are here. Took a drive on the Cactus Forest Drive of the Saguaro National Park -East. The scenery is absolutely magnificant! Today we did the West Saguaro National Park- including the International Wildlife Museum, Old...

Mar 17, 2009 - Up date from Mesa

Happy St Patrick's Day It is 5:45am and I am up - sleep deprived or what! Rod is snoozing away so I decided to get up and catch you up with what we have been up to. So here I am with coffee, toast and Good Morning Arizona on TV keeping me company. It is still dark here. To bring you up to date - Friday we enjoyed more of the Grand Canyon - it was a beautiful sunny day - 8 degrees C - only needed a light fleece jacket to stay warm. We started the day with a visit to the IMAX theatre in Tusayan - the Grand Canyon show was like taking a...

Mar 12, 2009 - Sedona and Grand Canyon

Greetings from the Grand Canyon South Rim. We seem to have been on the run every day. Yesterday we travelled to Sedona. The red rock is unbelievable! You can see the red rock in the distance as you approach Sedona. The homes, businesses, sidewalks and streets all have some shade of red rock in them. It was a great day and we managed to find our way through Phoenix back to the Park after dark. The GPS has really served us well. This morning we decided to head for the Grand Canyon and hotel it tonight. So here we are. We booked into the Grand...

Mar 9, 2009 - Mesa

Greetings from Mesa We checked into the Good Life RV Resort on March 6th. The park has about 1100 sites mostly park site models but some spots through out the park for motor homes and 5th wheelers. There are activities for absolutely everyone. There are often two and three activities a day. Friday we attended the fish fry supper, and then went to bingo. Saturday we were off to the Mesa Market Place - got some bargains we think, and on returning to the park we had a happy hour drink and visit with Terry and Bonnie Fletcher and then later...

Mar 5, 2009 - Quartzsite - time to update

Greetings from Quartzsite. We have done lots since our last entry. We were at St. George for 2 days and then moved onto Vegas for two days - stayed at the LV Oasis RV Resort - there's that word Dale (as soon as they use resort the price goes up), but the amenities were superb - even if we did not try all of them out. Why you have not heard from us is that wireless was an extra $6.00 per day - and I was too cheap to pay that. when a lot of the sites provide it for free. We toured and gambled and shopped - checked out Fremont Street area....

Feb 28, 2009 - St. George, Utah

Well we have arrived in St. George, Utah and this is the first night for the 5th wheel. We left Wednesday in the afternoon and only got as far as Taber, Alberta due to blowing and snowing. Thursday brought more of the same weather and we made it only as far as Great Falls, Montana. On the way there we encountered snow plows, swirling snow and crazy drivers. Near Shelby a 1/2 ton passed us and then slammed on his brakes as it was a white out from a snow plow in the other lane. That has been the only real nail bitter! (Rod might say that I...
