Aug 23, 2017 - Trois Pistoles

August 23, 2017 - Trois Pistoles For those of you who speak French or a little French, you probably can guess why we stayed in the town of Trois Pistoles (Three Guns) Bob saw the name and Voila! Allons-y. Technically, we have not yet reached the Gaspe peninsula but Trois Pistoles is about 158 miles northeast of Quebec city right on the Fleuve St. Laurent (St. Lawrence River). Here, the tides are quite high and low respectively and at low tide, the boats simply rest on the bottom waiting for the water to rise again. There is a large, lovely...

Jul 26, 2017 - Levis to St Mathieu de Rioux

The Trans Canada Highway went right past the campground so I stayed on that for most of today’s journey until it turned south to go to New Brunswick. The freeway was still following the St Lawrence River but it was quite hazy this morning so no good for photos. I stopped at a small Tourist Information booth & got an English guide to the Gaspé Peninsula which will be very helpful because I can’t rely on the road signs. It sounds like a fascinating area so I’m looking forward to the next few days. Thankfully, I’ve finished with the population...

Canada 2017

Aug 17, 2012 - Trois Pistoles

Day Fifty Eight – Aug 17 Trois Pistoles 123k I had trouble sleeping last night and my head is as foggy as it is outside. The ride today would again follow along the St. Lawrence Seaway. The highway was route 132 which was not the main highway. The main highway paralleled this one and took most of the traffic. After about an hour of cycling the clouds began to break apart and lift. There was a great view of a canyon at Kamouraska. All the little towns sprouted huge churches. The spires were as visible as elevators on the prairies. I...

Aug 19, 2011 - Riviere Ouelle – Trois Pistoles

August 19 – Day – Day 57 Riviere Ouelle – Trois Pistoles K’s 120 Time 4h 45m Average speed: 25.17k/H T to d 6203 Another fabulous day on the bikes. Great weather and great scenery on route along the river mainly on good bike friendly roads with some exceptions that were very rough. Hard to complain when the day went so well with the exception of a side wall tear on my rear tire that caused a flat and then a rather major repair. Good thing we are used to doing repairs to tires as they can be frustrating. We left camp a bit late as Terri...

Aug 17, 2008 - 58 Trois Pistoles

The day started with threatening clouds and a strong wind. The wind was mostly a cross wind, but it still made cycling more tiring. Although the 24km mark is a little early to stop for a break, we were outside an Auberge in Kamouraska when Bob came out to say that they had café aux lait and crepes. It may have been the best breakfast of the tour so far. I was riding with Brendan, Ian, Heather and Andrew, but we managed to get separated due to missed turns, different speeds, etc. We met up again at Tim's in Riviere du Loupe for lunch and...
