Bonjour. I crossed into Quebec this morning & I’m definitely in a different country. Canada is officially bi-lingual with most road signs, etc in English & French but Quebec is not bi-lingual at all – everything is only in French although so far everyone I’ve contacted has been able to speak to me in English. It started raining about 5:00am & it hasn’t stopped since so I had to pack up in the rain, puddling around in wet grass, fighting off the mosquitoes. Canada 2017

Aug 6, 2012 - Backtracking - Heading south toward Montreal

Friday the 3rd we departed Quebec . We stayed at two of the same ports we used on the way going north on the St. Lawrence - Portneuf & Sorel. One night turned into 3 nights in Sorel, longer than planned because Maggie came down with a head cold that migrated to the chest and she needed to get past the fever stage. We'll head out tomorrow, the Aug. 7th. These few days are unremarkable because we are doing repeats. It did give us time to make an important decision. Jun 19, 2006 - Sorel, Quebec

We can not believe it, but here we are. After leaving Burlington, we headed straight for Canada customs, which has a wharf just across the border. They were very helpful in processing us, asking the pertinent questions. They were fine with "ships stores" for our booze. Back on the water within 15 minutes, we got to St. Jean which is just at the first lock up to take us to the St. Lawrence Waterway. The town was having a festival with model remote control boats going thru the lock. They charged scale rates for them, so a skiff of 5' in...
