Oct 9, 2012 - Navy's Travels - Max's traveling teddy
Quebec City is the capital of the Canadian province of Quebec, and is one of the oldest cities in North America. It is situated next to the Saint Lawrence river which is really huge and I'll be careful not to drop Navy into the water. Although, with a name like Navy, he may be pretty good...

Sep 23, 2012 - Quebec City
September 21-22, 2012 The two days we spent in Quebec City were absolutely enjoyable! The Quebec City KOA , where we stayed, arranged for a shuttle to pick us up and take us into the Upper Town. That’s where we took a two-hour tour. In a mid-size bus, we saw The Latin Quarter, Plains of Abraham, Ramparts, world famous Château Frontenac, National Assembly, Basilica, City Hall, Place-Royale, Citadelle and a glimpse of modern Quebec City. It was a perfect introduction to the city. During the tour we got off the bus in front of the National...

Sep 22, 2012 - Quebec City on our own
September 22, 2012- Today is a free day, so Susan and I are headed back into Quebec City. Unlike Montreal, we felt we hadn’t gotten the full measure of the city from our tour and we wanted to go back and look around some more. It was a little daunting to drive our big truck into town, but we found a surface parking lot just steps from the funiculare that runs up the hill. We started by going to the Museum Chevalier, which was an early merchant’s house turned into a museum. We learned a good bit about the day to day life of a prosperous...

Sep 21, 2012 - Touring Quebec City by Bus
September 21, 2012-Today we took a bus tour of Quebec that offered a tremendous sampling of what the city and its outskirts had to offer. Our guide was Pierre, who used to be a bus driver but decided that he could do as good a job as the other guides he heard, so he and two friends started a guide business. Pierre was quite engaging and always had something interesting to say about everything around us. We began in the lower city at the first origins of Quebec, where Pierre explained how Quebec was first founded and how the city progressed...

Sep 20, 2012 - Travel to Quebec
September 20, 2012-Today is a travel day from Montreal to Quebec. We aren’t taking the most direct route because we want to travel along The King’s Road (Chemin du Roy), which runs along the Saint Lawrence river. Here is how one website describes it: “The King's Road (Chemin du Roy) is the oldest roadway in Canada. From 1737, it linked New France's three largest cities: Montréal, Trois-Rivières and Québec City. Nowadays, a marked itinerary allows you to discover the rich heritage of the Québec City and Area, the Mauricie and the Lanaudière...

Sep 17, 2012 - Last day in Quebec
We were going to take a break today, but still spent some of the day back in the old city of Quebec. I took some additional pictures because I hadn't taken a good picture of the Chateau Frontenac. I also took new pictures of the Old town of Quebec, the cruise ships in port (one just arriving) and a better picture of the painted mural. At a distance, it does, in fact, look 3 dimensional. There are a few pictures of the Camping Juneau Chalet where we are camping. Thought you might be interested in some of the signs in the campground and...

Sep 16, 2012 - Quebec
We arrived in Quebec City yesterday after a night in a campground in St. Jacques. Bill decided to drive a little longer so we wouldn't have to drive as much yesterday morning. A few of the pictures were from driving. I finally got pictures of moose signs. We've seen them roadside since we got into Cape Breton and all the way across to Quebec. They even have pictures of a car and a large moose indicating how much bigger the moose was than the car. Glad we didn't run into one! This morning we took a bus tour of historic Quebec City, which...

Sep 3, 2012 - Quebec Countryside
We brought a map, some water and our bikes and pointed the car to the countryside of Quebec. We spent the day driving through some traditional villages along the Seaway. Between the villages are many family farms that looks like they have been around for many generations. It's harvest time with many fruit and vegetable stands along the road. We stop and got some corn, raspberries, strawberries and local honey. The strawberries were exceptional good. We visited an old Church call Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre. The detailed art work was beyond...

Sep 2, 2012 - Old Quebec
The lady behind the counter says "Bonjour", I replied "Bonjour". I quickly learned that was code to see if you speak french. I now reply "Hello". We had to turn on the heater this morning, it was a cool 50F. Today was a day of touring Old Quebec City. Quebec means 'narrowing of the river'. Old Quebec City was established in the middle 1600's and is the last city in North America with a full, still standing city wall. The city has a flavor of Paris France with lot's of outdoor cafe's, fountains with statues and quaint narrow streets. We...

Sep 1, 2012 - The Crossing
We checked and double checked the requirements to cross the Canadian border in a motorhome. It was our first crossing in a motorhome. We had all our stuff in order down to how much meat you can bring. I was expecting the customs guy to say "Hey Buddy, pull over there and get ready for the half day INSPECTION" It never happened. It was a very pleasant experience with only a few questions. It only took about 5 minutes and we were off to Quebec City. It turns out that the Labor day weekend in the US was also Labor day weekend for Canada. The...
