May 22, 2017 - Matane - Cap Chat - Rivière-du-loup

Je me rends compte...

Sep 3, 2015 - new tires

Murray has been looking for tires since ottawa and nobody had them. Today at the second lighthouse we noticed one tire (the one repaired in Shaunavon )was losing air again. Luckily we got into an awesome tire shop that fitted us with 4 new tires , better for our van and no illegal studs!!!! One less thing to worry about. Drove along the coast most of the afternoon , tide was in so waves crashing in. Crashed in a small campground as it was getting late. Tomorrow on to Fillion national park.

Jul 9, 2013 - Me'tis-Sur-Mer, Gaspe’ peninsula , Quebec

July 9, 2013 We parted ways with the Hills for a few days while they traveled to Fredericton, NB and we went to the Gaspe’ peninsula. We haven’t been there but have heard so much about it that we decided to go and see for ourselves. We got a late start leaving the Levis campground (around 10:45) because Cherie was talking to our neighbors that just returned from the Gaspe’ peninsula about what to see and where to stay. It is about 600 miles around the peninsula so I wanted to fill up the MH before we left the main roads. Our Flying J...

Sep 4, 2012 - Matane Quebec

Quebec is like a country within a country. French is the way of life. While in Quebec city, we found most people are bilingual. Now that we are outside of a big city, most people speak French. Communicating is becoming a fun game of charades. We traveled to Matane, Quebec on Highway 20 along the southside of the seaway. This area is mostly agricultural with big family farms. Wheat harvesting is in season and the combines were in full force. We arrived in Matane around 4pm and we had time to explore the town. We were advised by the visitor...

Sep 16, 2009 - Matane, QC - Beautiful Drive Along Gulf of St. Lawrence.

(Ron Writing) It was only 40° when we awoke this morning but at least it was bright and sunny with only a light wind. After breakfast and a walk on the beach we continued our drive on Highway 132 heading west-southwest along the north side of the Gaspe Peninsula and the south shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. During the first couple hours of driving the route was still very mountainous with steep grades crossing a series of headlands down to a series of coves. Wherever there was a cove, there was a small town. It was a beautiful drive all...

Aug 14, 2008 - Matane, Quebec

Thursday August 14…11:00pm Had a bit of a difficult time finding internet this morning. Stopped in several villages along the way to the town of Ste Anne des Monts, and couldn’t find any connection. But in the town, they had a visitor centre as well as a biblioteque (library) so had no problem getting online there. While I spent some time on the internet, Ruth took Whiskey for a long wak around town. Today was pretty much sunny with cloudy breaks, with a few sprinkles of rain. And it was fairly windy, but fortunately it was a good strong...

Aug 19, 2007 - Leaving Matane, QC

Mileage 69914. We drove 175 miles today. We leave Matane,QC. It is rainy and windy. It is 48 degrees outside. We stopped at WalMart for groceries. This stretch of road is like driving Highway 1 in CA. It is windy and up and down. This was a very pretty drive. We are driving on the north coast of the Gaspe Pennisula. We pass through lots of one street towns. They have water on one side and hills on the other and this road goes trhough the middle. They are cute little towns. Each has it's own church. The churches all seem to be very close to...

Aug 19, 2007 - Making the best of our delay

Since we could not move our rig, we decided to do some laundry and visit the area. We went to a small village on the coast and saw some interesting sights. We saw a big freighter that carried trains accross the St. Lawrence. We also saw some covered bridges.

Jul 11, 2007 - Quebec, Rimouski, A Plumbing Detour and Camping Electrique

Ahh, the scent of salty sea air! After a couple of days visit with Marie-Claude and Mario in Quebec City (thanks for your warm welcome, the visit to the festival d'été and your VERY refreshing swimming pool) we moved east to Rimouski (Ste-Luce-sur-mer to be exact). This area is smack dab on the St. Lawrence Estuary. Interesting shores and beaches with a mix of sand, fine stone, shells and rock. The relatively shallow waters of the South Shore of the St Lawrence offer wide tidal flats at low tide and interesting tidal pools. There's always...
