Aug 7, 2017 - Perth 2
Sunday: it was a day to do some housework for me and Mel was determined to get that satellite working and he did! It was a good thing I got some cleaning done as we had company! Yes, no matter where we go we like to host! Mel's cousin Gloria and her hubby Jim made a detour on their way from camping back to Ottawa to see us. Jim could not indulge in an alcoholic beverage as he takes his driving duties very seriously. However, Gloria and I drank red wine that we bought in the Ottawa area with them last year. Pretty cool! Monday: it started...Jump to full entry
Aug 5, 2017 - Perth/Smith Falls, ON
We checked in at the Last Duel Campground in Perth at 1:30 pm yesterday. It was warm and humid which was nice after more rain along the drive from Havelock. After setting up Mel was happy to play with his satellite as he had no TV for awhile. I ventured out on my own to find a quilt shop and pick up a few groceries. I came home with milk and eggs but there wa no quilt shop. It had moved! This time it was the GPS that steered me wrong! Today we walked the downtown area and what history there is in the buildings. I finally got to a farmer's...Jump to full entry
Aug 3, 2017 - Day 23
Hello all! Sorry to disappoint you but no big cities, no photos, no big events, no detours, and no getting lost! Overall another really good day. We said good-bye to Irene and Heather as they could not be convinced to come along for the journey. Heather kept us well fed and Irene made us awesome desserts! I was feeling very spoiled as they really did not let me do anything to help out. They are now my 'sisters' and I look forward to returning the favour whever they can make it out west! Today seemed like a long day even though we did not...Jump to full entry
Aug 2, 2017 - Hamilton
Today was a day trip to Hamilton. We stopped in Guelph briefly to see the university campus & a Tim's stop. Then we headed to McMaster University to see Ryan in his office on campus. He is finishing his masters degree in hydrology and hopes to have his thesis presented by September. We walked to go out for dinner and it was a bit of a hike in30 degree temperatures. The return walk was a bit cooler but even I did not need a jacket or sweater! Along the way we stopped and checked out the monuments honouring the Ukrainian immigrants. A second...Jump to full entry
Aug 1, 2017 - Palmerston and area
Palmerston and the surrounding towns have populations of different sizes. The area has a variety of farming and manufacturing with a huge Mennonite community. So Monday was girls day and off we went to Arthur, Ferguson and Elora. The shops offered lots of the usual tourist items but many other options as well. Lunch was at a restaurant called the Red Door. Heather tried to get me on the Zipline across the Elora Gorge but I resisted! I am saving that experience for some exotic area somewhere in the world! Honestly! We started Aiugust off on...Jump to full entry
Jul 30, 2017 - Cousins!!!
Life is good! I know it is a trademark but it reflects what we are so lucky to be experiencing. The land of our large country separates us but when we get to see one another we pick up where we left off. We had a chance to see two of the three Winn sisters twelve years ago. Irene is now in Palmerston and Bonnie and Ken took the time to drive from London to see us. As for Heather, Mel had not seen her since they were teenagers so there are lots of stories to share. Irene has two big dogs named Skylar and Jack. They love Mel and I am now a...Jump to full entry
Jul 29, 2017 - South Bruce Peninsula
After the monsoons, the sun shone on us! On Thursday we went to Sauble Beach which is off Lake Huron and spent the better portion of the day there. Pat's granddaughter Kayla was our chauffeur giving Mel a day off from driving. Kayla's son Lucas entertained us and he loved Mel because he had a big truck! We stopped in Wiarton to see Willie and have ice cream! On Friday Pat was our chauffeur taking us to see Lion's Head Bay, Hope Bay, and back to Colpoy's Bay. We topped off the evening with a happy hour with their neighbours and lots of talk...Jump to full entry
Jul 26, 2017 - Wet Wednesday!
A day of travel but not trains, planes and automobiles. Just truck with trailer on ferry. We allowed lots of time so we could walk around South Baymouth but the rain just would not stop. So our picnic lunch became an indoor lunch in the truck while waiting for the ferry. And the rain continued.....and continued......on the ferry ride, then all the way to Pat and Pete's, and while we set up! We hope to dry out over the next few days. LOLJump to full entry
Jul 25, 2017 - Manitoulin Island 2
Another island day with lots of sun and no sign of rain! Yahoo! Our campsite is at Sheguiandah and today we headed north on highway 6. The roads are narrow and the speed limit is 80 km/hr just the way a relaxed life should be. We followed highway 540 and went to a town called Kagawong. Here we went on a hike to check out the Bridal Veil Falls. This is where we met two couples one from Boston and the other from Philidelphia. The guys were talking about hockey etc. We had taken pictures of me on the shore of Mudge Bay with a ship in the...Jump to full entry
Jul 24, 2017 - Manitoulin Island
Well a good day for travel today as the sun was shining down on us. Our arrival at Batman's Cottages and Campgrounds was right in time to check in at the 1:00 PM timeframe. A quick lunch after setting up and what do we do? Get back in the truck and go touring. REALLY! We went to see the Georgian Bay lookout at Ten Mile Point. Moving along the next stop was Providence Bay which was recommended as a must see by the staff at the campground. They were right the sand on the beach felt good on our toes. We walked the boardwalk and because Mel was...Jump to full entry
Jul 23, 2017 - Happy Sunday!
It is a cooler 13 degrees this morning after many 17/18 mornings. It does make a difference and I think it is warmer outside than in the A & W. Beggars, or bummers in our case, can not be choosers comes to mind! Today I posted a picture of Buddy and Faye, I did not forget about you! They live in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Faye is my long distance Row by Row pattern finder! Today we have no agenda except to get closer to Manitoulin Island. This cold or allergies, not sure which yet is a nuisance. I did manage to not nod off too many times...Jump to full entry
