Apr 22, 2013 - Windsor, Ontario (Super 8)
April 22/13 We headed up to the Canadian border, which was no problem, standard questions and we were on our way to the Super 8 motel in Windsor. We arrived early enough to have dinner at Harvey’s and gamble a bit at the Windsor casino. I left a few dollars down and Mike wasn’t lucky at all. Hotel Notes: 2 Queen Beds Non-Smoking, $76.83 (advance reservation), Nice quiet room, First floor room on 2 floor inside corridor motel... We could see the trailer out the window. Breakfast was basic but good. good wifi. Good RV Parking is available and...

Jul 10, 2012 - Two Days With Carol
I met Carol 42 years ago when she moved into the apartment next to us in Sandusky, Ohio. She has lived in Florida for the past 20 years and we don't get to see each other often but when we do we make the most of our time together. Carol arrived in Royal Oak at 11 yesterday morning, parked her car at Spencer's house, and off we went to explore Via Italia in Windsor, Canada. We spent the night downtown at the casino hotel where we gambled for hours and didn't lose any of our own money - guess that made us winners. We came back to Michigan...

Oct 14, 2011 - Meetings
Short meeting this morning and then the 4 of us are off t explore. We end up at Billy Reef Marina for lunch. It is located on Lake St. Clair, food is terrific, the servings are huge and the price is reasonable. Lots of white caps on the lake today. Dinner tonight is at Sun Parlour Yacht Club. Small working man's club, very friendly. Everyone had a great time.

Oct 13, 2011 - Fort Walden
Fort Walden is approximately 18 miles south of Windsor. The fort was used to protect Detroit before it became part of the U.S. n 1812 it was under control of the British but from 1813 to 1815 the fort was under the control of the U.S. and when the war ended it reverted back to the British. It is the 2nd os 3 1812 sites we will visit this trip. Thurs. night the group visited the Windsor Yacht Club for a pasta dinner. RG is getting used to his surroundings and is eating like normal. He likes to sit in the window of the room. He is also...

Sep 1, 2011 - Darn - No Camera
Norma and I went to Little Italy in Windsor, Canada for a very special birthday lunch. That's right, I still haven't stopped celebrating! Erie Street, otherwise known as Via Italia, is a treasure trove of restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries , and gift shops with Italian imports. After walking up one side of the street and down the other, we decided it was time to eat - and eat we did - antipasti first and then veal with mushrooms in a wine sauce. Our next stop was Casino Windsor ( now called Caesars) . Lots of slot machines but we couldn't...

Oct 24, 2010 - Windsor and Detroit
The nearest big city to our campground was Windsor. As well as doing some much needed non-grocery shopping we explored the riverfront. From the riverfront trail you get splendid views across the river to downtown Detroit with its many skyscrapers the most impressive being the GM tower. In contrast Windsor has very few skyscrapers and the major buildings are the distillery and the Caesars Palace Casino. But both cities are dominated by the car industry. In one of the parks along the Windsor riverfront was a number of interesting sculptures...

Sep 20, 2010 - 4th day of Classes, First Journal Entry
My adventure began two Sundays ago. And this is the first opportunity I've had to reflect on the experience since that Sunday, fifteen days ago. Over this "Good Morning Special" at the Willistead Diner (which is the usual brekkie fare with slight cheap chinese food undertones) I have decided to keep this journal as my lifeline to the outside world. The idea to keep a travel journal came while thinking of a good friend who has been able to keep one of these journals ( on this very site ) for quite a number of his fantastic adventures. This...

May 17, 2010 - Day 7 and 8
Saturday Day 7 spent with family in Windsor. Gorgeous weather, warm and summer-like without a trace of rain. Nice area of Windsor, small city of LaSalle just about on the Detroit River. Did some touring of the area. The ladies went for pedicures, manicures, gambling and dinner. Three of us guys and cousin's daughter went over to Detroit to watch the Tigers-Red Sox game. Beautiful new stadium in downtown Detroit packed with 40,000+ on a beautiful night. I love baseball. Nothing quite like watching live Major League games. Quite the...

May 15, 2010 - Day 5 and 6
Two days later in Windsor Ontario. Back in Canada and the weather is spectacular. Like a summer's day. Staying with my cousin Janet and her family with other visiting relatives so having a terrific time. Left Des Moines Thursday morning in rain storms and detours and a whole lot of traffic on the interstate. The American economy runs on truck transport! So we move onto the old US highways and tour all the little towns. Into Illinois where they have the worst highways and stayed at a dump in Joliet. Haven't seen a Canadian license plate...

Dec 29, 2009 - The Boarder
The drive to the Detroit boarder crossing was on bare roads and we made good time. The boarder guard asked lots of questions, more than on any other trip, but there was no search of the motorhome or the x ray of the coach. We stopped for the night at the Ohio Visitors Centre on I75. It was a chilly night, but the furnace kept us warm.

Aug 14, 2009 - Windsor
It's interesting to note that it's possible to travel north into the United States from Canada! Windsor is actually south of Detroit. Windsor is another in the long list of cities we have visited which is vitally interested in making the water front into a series of parks and playgrounds for the use of it's citizens, and just generally to make the city attractive. The unfortunate part of this trip is that there was a labour conflict between the city and the outside workers that lasted from April to August. It meant that the parks weren't up...
