Oct 15, 2015 - Fantastic Thanksgiving, now Pause!

We left the cottage on a misty morning, but the sun was shining, a good day for a drive. Oma was happy we managed to get the cottage all closed up and she wouldn't have to worry about it all winter. Unfortunately, we were a little worried about her, she seemed more unsteady than usual, so we decided to return to Toronto on Wed. for her doctor's appointment. We dropped her at the house Saturday about noon and continued our drive to Windsor for our visiting there. The plan was to visit Michelle's sister and niece, have Thanksgiving dinner...

Apr 9, 2015 - Thursday- Day 103: LAST DAY!!

Apr. 9, 2015 - Day 103: THE LAST DAY!!!! “No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow.” So we left Georgetown, KY at 7:45 AM & it was only 59*F; the sun was showing itself at intervals as were the clouds but we high tailed it out of Dodge as fast as we could to avoid all the bad weather that was supposed to hit. Traffic was not bad & we were making good time & then we hit Cincinnati, OH. It wasn't so much the city or the bad driving as it was the construction basically...

Oct 29, 2014 - Last Day in Canada

Our last day started with doing some minor repairs to salvage the little electric heater. Then after breakfast we played golf and had a wonderful BBQ dinner with Sherrill in the RV. Golf was a cheap $16 per person with the riding cart, such a deal. Still going through our last minute checks and finding the final place for all the odds and ends. (The two bottles of wine were easy to get rid of). Michelle finished the preparation of the binder for the boarder crossing, ready to answer any questions they may ask. I guess we're ready.

Winter West

Oct 27, 2014 - Windsor Ontario

Arriving in Toronto, we pulled into mom's driveway... how you fit a 40' RV into a 60's style driveway is a big part luck and a little bit of planning. The next day driving mom up to the cottage was a hoot... 92 year old ladies who get to sit up high in the RV looking down at others... she was non-stop talk all the way... along with the 30mph cross winds... it was very entertaining... We parked at the cottage ... again a task all onto itself... we just managed to prove yes we do fit... once we pulled a couple of fence posts out. The evening...

Sep 24, 2013 - A Trip to Windsor

We decided to keep a day to ourselves and drive over the border to Windsor, Ontario, Canada. We always loved visiting Jackson Park where the gardens were so beautiful and I thought it would be fun to go back there again. It had been quite a long time since we had been there and we actually forgot how to get there. We weren’t disappointed in the beauty of that place. The flowers were looking wonderful due to all the planning that goes into putting those gardens together. The colors all blended so well and even though it was late in the...

Aug 28, 2013 - Canadian Club Heritage Center

Today I drove to Windsor, Canada to take a tour of the Canadian Club Heritage Center. This is a beautiful 1858 building that is now the area's most popular venue for weddings. Our tour guide was fairly new but did a commendable job of showing us around while conveying the history of the building , the man, and the brand. Hiram Walker was originally from Massachusetts but found his way to Detroit and the grocery business. When he decided to get into the distilling of whisky he bought property across the Detroit River in Windsor, Canada. He...

Jul 10, 2012 - Two Days With Carol

I met Carol 42 years ago when she moved into the apartment next to us in Sandusky, Ohio. She has lived in Florida for the past 20 years and we don't get to see each other often but when we do we make the most of our time together. Carol arrived in Royal Oak at 11 yesterday morning, parked her car at Spencer's house, and off we went to explore Via Italia in Windsor, Canada. We spent the night downtown at the casino hotel where we gambled for hours and didn't lose any of our own money - guess that made us winners. We came back to Michigan...

Fort Walden is approximately 18 miles south of Windsor. The fort was used to protect Detroit before it became part of the U.S. n 1812 it was under control of the British but from 1813 to 1815 the fort was under the control of the U.S. and when the war ended it reverted back to the British. Sep 1, 2011 - Darn - No Camera

Norma and I went to Little Italy in Windsor, Canada for a very special birthday lunch. That's right, I still haven't stopped celebrating! Erie Street, otherwise known as Via Italia, is a treasure trove of restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries , and gift shops with Italian imports. After walking up one side of the street and down the other, we decided it was time to eat - and eat we did - antipasti first and then veal with mushrooms in a wine sauce. Our next stop was Casino Windsor ( now called Caesars) . Lots of slot machines but we couldn't...
