Jul 2, 2018 - Pingu goes to Bell Island

We got up in time to grab some complimentary breakfast but the dining room was full so we took it back to our room to indulge. However, we didn't get out until past 10:30am with plans to first do a hike at the northern most point of the Avalon peninsula of NL at Back Cove. As luck would have it, I inadvertently entered a NS address into the GPS and it was almost 30min of highway driving before I realised we were going in the wrong direction (heading toward Gander!) and got off the highway slowly making our way back to the second planned...

Jul 1, 2018 - Canada Day, 2018

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!! We slept in and got off to a lazy start on our first day in Newfoundland. After taking a walk with Pingu in the neighbourhood, letting him sniff and mark every interesting spot until he was shooting blanks, I got back to find sleeping beauty stirring. We eventually got our act together and headed into town to find something open for breakfast... which was quickly turning into brunch as it was now past 1pm! As we drove past several closed establishments, the Bagel Cafe caught my eye but the menu board on the outside...

Jun 11, 2018 - Toronto and points East

June 3rd Lots of family time today and we see more brothers, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends. As always it is chaotic and loud as the competition to be heard is, well, like all families and it is great to be here. Bill cooks a salmon for everyone and it was delicious. Unfortunately we forgot the camera so not one pic of the family get together. Unless there is a list we never remember everything we are supposed to take! June 4th Our goal today is to find some lightweight pants for Bill so he can cover up from the...

Jun 5, 2018 - Toronto, Ontario

June 2nd Today we enter the toxic wasteland of Toronto (Bill’s words not mine). As we get closer to the city the roads get bigger and faster the traffic increases exponentially. We run into our first navigation problem which is of our own making. We entered the wrong address into Edith (our GPS) for the conservation area we are camping at for the next week. As we travelled farther and farther east on the 401 we realised something is not right. However changing your mind in the middle lane of 12 lanes of traffic on the 401 is no small task....

May 2, 2018 - Vancouver to Toronto

I finalized arrangements with Charlotte to visit her & Paul for dinner on my way to the airport this afternoon, then checked-in on-line for my flights to Toronto & Fredericton but I don’t know why I bothered because I still had to go through the normal procedure at the airport. Fredericton is in the news because of severe flooding along the St John River so I made a few phone calls to see what the situation is like. The place where the motorhome is stored is above the floods but one of the roads there from the airport is cut by floodwaters....

Apr 4, 2018 - Day 5 and 6 - New York City

Good Morning Parents So the WiFi in the hotel packed in completely today so I was unable to do the blog. We’re currently sat at the Top of the Rock at the Rockefeller Centre seeing some slightly cloudy views of NYC and they have solid WiFi! So yesterday was a busy, busy day. We started with a trip on the NY Subway down to South Ferry toncatxh out boat to Liberty Island to see Lady Liberty herself up close and personal. Whilst it was wet we had a good run out and got some good pics of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It was then a...

Apr 3, 2018 - Day 4 - The Big Apple

So it’s good Morning Parents this time because the WiFi in the hotel is absolutely rubbish. So yesterday has largely a travel day as we had to leave our hotel in Toronto and head to the airport to New York. After experiencing what can only be described as a terrible airport at Pearson Internatinal we got our flight to New York City and arrived just after 5pm. A short and relatively quick for New York bus ride, we got to the Edison, checked in and head straight out to Times Square! We gave the kids an hour to shop and boy did they start...

Apr 1, 2018 - Day 3 - The Niagara Falls!

Good Evening Parents So today our day began with a bus ride out to the town of Niagara Falls (after being corrected by Mr Dowd on how to spell it) where we met our tour guides who took us down to the main event - the Niagara Falls. The falls are actually separated into two, the American and Canadian Falls. The Canadian Falls were the main attraction and what most people would think of when they think of Niagara Falls. We were taken on a guided bus tour of the full length where we saw the stranded boat, the power planet and the view into...

Mar 31, 2018 - Day 2 - Markets, Ferry’s, Islands and Shops

Good Evening Parents So today’s schedule was a bit more relaxed but our step count certainly increased today. We began with a leisurely walk downtown to the St Lawrence Market for some food and tat shopping. Interestingly not much tat has been purchased this year but I’m sure NY might change that. The kids actually did quite well in the market, buying a wide array of food from Sushi, Chinese and Hot Dogs through to (and possibly a first in 11 tours) fruit and salad! With our lunches either in our bag or our belly we then headed to the...

Mar 30, 2018 - Day 2 - Lots of sights and Baseball

Good Evening Parents So today we’ve been rather busy. We awoke for breakfast early doors as we had a walking tour of this rather charming city. We split into two groups where we were lead by our tour guys around the various plazas, squares, banks and boulevards of Toronto. They have a funny sense of history over here as they like to talk about their ‘old buildings’ which are barely a hundred years old but our rather quirky guides (my teams guide tried to get us jogging on occasions...it didn’t work) have us a good tour of the Eaton Centre,...

Mar 19, 2018 - Toronto (In Transit)

@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD We started our plans for visiting Colombia in February and March 2018 by booking an Aeroplan rewards flight home from Bogotá in May 2017. It was a bit of a long shot for us, especially when you consider we rarely make firm plans for travel so far in advance. However, we had a chance to fly all the way home on Premium Economy/Business Class and the comfort was too tempting to resist. In the end, everything worked out just fine. Our only concern as our departure date approached was the weather conditions in...

Dec 28, 2017 - Edmonton to Toronto

Dec 28 Departure day Our flight was changed the day before our departure. Instead of leaving at 12 20 we were now scheduled for 1255. We thought a good start to our trip would be to go out for dinner with mom and Pete. We went to a local restaurant for dinner and had scrumptious veal cutlets except Barry opted for the Liver and Onions. We had a lovely relaxing meal and then headed to the airport. As it was a work day we thought it best for Pete to drive us sooner rather than later so he could get home at a reasonable hour. One of the perks...
