Dec 28, 2017 - Edmonton to Toronto

Dec 28 Departure day Our flight was changed the day before our departure. Instead of leaving at 12 20 we were now scheduled for 1255. We thought a good start to our trip would be to go out for dinner with mom and Pete. We went to a local restaurant for dinner and had scrumptious veal cutlets except Barry opted for the Liver and Onions. We had a lovely relaxing meal and then headed to the airport. As it was a work day we thought it best for Pete to drive us sooner rather than later so he could get home at a reasonable hour. One of the perks...

Oct 13, 2017 - The final chapter

We are reaching the end of the Canadian odyssey but still having so much fun that we now think this will not be our last Canadian visit. Our visit to Alexia and Jonathan in Montreal was the first time we had seen them since cruising on Halong Bay when they were on their honeymoon. Now they have two kids and are living contentedly in the suburbs looking out onto a golf course. ( the ultimate )We enjoyed the most wonderful brunch with them, all the things we love and would serve ourselves- grapefruit, cheese, fruit bread, crepes with maple...

@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD We avoid flying through Toronto as much as possible because we often hear about how congested it is and there’s a terrible risk of shut-downs in the winter when nasty east coast storms are raging. This year, we took a chance because we were flying in early October, before Canadian Thanksgiving, in a relatively quiet time of year. Our luck held out and we transited through the airport with no problems at all. @@@@@@@

Oct 5, 2017 - Toronto

An exhausting but fun day in Toronto & it’s not over yet. The train wasn’t scheduled to leave until 10.00pm so I was prepared for a long day but early this morning I got an e-mail from Via Rail saying the train had been delayed until midnight. As it happened, it was due in to Toronto at 9:30am this morning & didn’t arrive here until 7:00pm so who know what time we’ll get away. Right now they’re telling us 12:30am but who knows? I’m comfortable in the Business Lounge at Union Station, I’ve had a nice dinner & a couple of large glasses of...

Oct 4, 2017 - Fredericton to Toronto

Everything went super-smoothly, in fact by the end of the day I was worried because I felt that surely something would have to go wrong. No problems with checking the motorhome in for its winter hibernation, the taxi to the airport was on time, the 2 hour flight to Toronto was on time & uneventful. I caught the airport express train into Union Station so I could check it out for tomorrow night, then got a cab the short distance to the Radisson which is right on the Toronto waterfront. I went for a walk along the waterfront & found that the...

Sep 28, 2017 - STAGING NIGHT

Left Mom and Tabu at 1800 for the trip of just over an hour to the Best Western Plus Airport West hotel, a spot I have stayed at 3-4 times before at the starts of other trips. The hotel certainly meets the needs, some 10 minutes from the airport. Got the alarm set and a bit of wifi time before a relaxing shower. Nil clear if SAA upgrade will be on offer, now delayed from 24H before the flight to 3H before the flight. The premium would be worth it as the trip is over 16H with the short break in the middle at Dakar, Senegal. Some NFL...

Endless Botswana

Sep 20, 2017 - Toronto

20/9/2017. Wednesday. Toronto We had a wake-up call at 6am - oh boy - I didn't want to get out of bed, but once I got going, all was good. A muesli bar and coffee for breakfast, then down to wait for our bus to take us to Niagara Falls for the day. Pick-up time was 8.30am, but we were to allow 15 minutes either way. At 9.50, Ian rang to see if we'd been forgotten, but no, we'd be picked up at 9. It was 9.10 before the bus arrived, and then we had to go to another hotel. That's when the fun began - a very loud woman complained that they were...

19/9/2017. Tuesday. On train - Toronto After struggling to come to terms with the fact that we'll arrive 11 hours late, and finally accepting that we're well, healthy, there's been no accident, and how lucky we are to even be doing this trip, I finally fell asleep and slept well. We awoke to the news that we're now 12 hours late. Oh well, what will be will be. We have the advantage of another restful day on the train, which will leave us bright eyed and bushy tailed for our trip to Niagara Falls tomorrow. The scenery has changed yet again...

Aug 27, 2017 - The de-humanisation of air travel ………. Uuuurrrrgggghhhhh!

I am sitting at Toronto airport with a three hour delay predicted for my onward flight to Rome. That means I’ll get out of here around midnight, after getting up this morning at 5:45am to get to Vancouver airport the prescribed 2.5 hours ahead of my flight departure time. I made absolutely sure I would not oversleep (not like in Chicago, when I didn’t get my hotel wake-up call and missed my flight home). Now, it’s belt and suspenders for me! I had not one, not two, but FIVE wake-up calls! First, my brother kindly stirred himself at this...

Italy - Finally!

Nov 10, 2016 - Toronto - return

After a hectic but educational and enjoyable trip we prepared to return home, after just adjusting to the time change and enjoying our breakfast buffets! Velma managed to negotiate a late check out for us since our flight back to Toronto was later in the evening at 6:45pm and we needed to be at the airport for 4:00pm. That left us a comfortable 90min for the ride to the airport which was in the North-east suburb of the city from where we were in the North-west section. Normally the journey would have been about 50min without traffic....

Oct 22, 2016 - Departure from Toronto

The excitement started building earlier in the year when we were informed about this incredible opportunity to go farther East than we had ever traveled in the past. An tour organised by We China Tours promised a 10 day excursion with direct flight (on Air Canada, no less!), luxury accommodation and local transportation with a large number of meals included for almost the same price as just the airfare! Family angst at the time put this decision on the back burner until a chance conversation brought it up again, this time being more...

Jul 22, 2016 - Toronto 12/7 - 21/7

TORONTO People are really friendly. That is the main thing I am thinking on my first night in this city. From the minute the plane came into land it was clear blue skies. The girl at customs was lovely, accepted my apologies for not having a pen to fill out my card and filled it out for me. The guy at Immigration should have been a movie star he is incredibly good looking. Blue eyes, tanned skin and really friendly. He tells me he is the same age as me, gives me some advice on cool places to go in Toronto, where to find jobs. He initially...
