Oct 11, 2018 - Sudbury, Ontario

. It is 180 miles from Escanaba, Michigan to the Canadian border crossing at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. So, again, after a quick breakfast at the Walmart in-store McDonald's, we hit the road again. . Today's plan was to fill up with Michigan gasoline on this side of the border, saving about $1.20 a gallon after taking the currency exchange into consideration (the Canadian dollar is worth about 77¢ USD) the saving was considerable on the 60 gallons I purchased on this side of the border. . Customs just took a few minutes with a very...

June 20 - Left home at 11:15am, arrived at campground west of Montreal at 5:00pm. 230 mi. Mosquitos abound. No one at gate; will pay at check out in morning. No wifi, this will go out when we find some. See map. June 21 - Left campsite at 9:30, stopped for lunch at roadside rest area, night's campground at 3:30. 210 mi. Jul 3, 2017 - Providence Bay to Sudbury

This is a Public Holiday so I left about 9:00am, hoping to beat the worst of the traffic, especially the bottleneck of the swing bridge which is the only road off the island. There’s a sign that says the swing bridge is closed for 15 minutes on the hour & since it’s a one-way bridge anyway, I’m sure there’ll be traffic holdups later. There’s also a 90 minute ferry that goes from the south of Manitoulin Island to Tobermory & is probably a much shorter route to Toronto but there’s stuff I want to see down the eastern edge of Lake Huron so I’m...

Canada 2017

Sep 11, 2016 - Sudbury overnight

- - We left Renfrew at 10:15 after we bought some fresh vegetable at the market, beans, corn, strawberries. Nice drive over to North Bay, huge Pine trees for miles, and every species were large. Again, the winds were howling, with sunny periods. Our drive was through some great communities like Mattawa where we stops for lunch. We bought a cooked chicken and overnight at Walmart.

Jun 9, 2016 - Sudbury has rocks , don't they?

On to Sudbury today, there were only two reasons to stop here. One, is to see the big Nickel, and take Joe for another walk. Two, Walmart has cheap parking. We drove around to some parks to walk Joe, But, Goose droppings everywhere, not pleasant. Sudbury as a city of 160,000 has a hilly terrain

May 12, 2016 - Wawa to Sudbury

We do find it interesting that a place that prides itself on fishing and hunting as a tourist destination, there are very few campgrounds! Mainly lodges and cabins, or worse yet abandoned motels in ruins. There also seem to be very few pull outs for viewing....anything, even discounting the stuff that is closed, there has been very little opportunity to be a tourist and lots of opportunity to be a road warrior! Laney drove us out of Wawa until our lunch stop east of Sault Ste Marie, did a great job over about 2.5 hours and gave me a rest....

May 20, 2015 - Day 1 - It's Showtime! (Toronto to Sudbury)

The day has finally arrived. We begin the journey west to my new home in Calgary. I've been planning this for 7 weeks yet I still feel unprepared. And for all of my planning there are last minute things to do before we leave. The original plan was to load the car by noon and take it for a test drive to see how it handles with all of my stuff loaded in the back. Naturally, I have more stuff than space. And it's not just my stuff. I've got cat stuff and dog stuff and, oh yes, my sister's luggage too! She has the smallest bag ever. I need to...

Karen Goes West

Jul 13, 2014 - Sudbury, ON Canada

Sudbury is the birthplace of Alex Trebec of Jeopardy. We took a walk along the boardwalk in the morning and sat for awhile until lunch time. We had boneless chicken wing sampler at the Wacky Wings…don’t ever order boneless wings…you don’t know what’s in them.

Day 26 - Sudbury, ON 9/7/2013 We had an easy trip today. Not much to see but water and trees and a few small towns. I did manage to get a few shots of the changing colors. when you look at them, enlarge the ones that show a lot of trees (there really is a lot of color in there that is hard to see in the small photo). I fixed spaghetti for dinner tonight. The biggest challenge was getting it to the table, I moved to fast and it flew off my plate! What fun it was cleaning it up, it took me almost an hour. I didn't have any carpet cleaner, I...

2013 Fall Colors

Jul 19, 2013 - The departure

"D" day. The year and a half of planning is finally turning into reality. Both Adam and I worked most of the day, and planned on leaving home late afternoon. For the last few days the weather has been very hot and humid, today was the day for the weather to break, the temperature hit 36C (95F), and a cold front moved in from the north at about the time we planned on leaving. Heavy thunderstorms, tornado sightings and heavy rain were the result. See the photo's. There was no way we were leaving in the deluge that came. The weather delayed...

Alaska Bound 2013

Jul 16, 2013 - Sudbury, On.

The pictures tell the story of our day. We drove and drove. Stopped for gas and a bite to eat once in while and drove some more. We decided on a campsite for the evening. It was hot and humid so we wanted air conditioning. Which we could also have with a generator. Just didn't want another night with the truck drivers. Tomorrow...more driving. We may make the border.

Aug 26, 2012 - Sudbury, Ont, Canada

An easy drive of 102 miles from Parry Sound KOA and the landscape changed yet again! It's an incredible part of Canada to see up here. The park we chose is full of seasonal workers who come here for the good money to be made in the mining industry during the spring thru fall. It's Carol Campsite just off the highway 69, south of town. We're here for two night and a quick look around town. the RV park is on the shores of Richard Lake, very nice.
