We started our day at Dynamic Earth. We took a one hour tour that takes you underground and gives a good understanding of the history of mining in Sudbury. They explained how the mining industry has evolved over the last one hundred years. Some of the mines at Sudbury go down about two kilometres. We found it interesting that for every kilometre you go down in the earth the temperatures rises by 25 degrees C. Carol’s Campground at Sudbury was very nice. Monday, August 07, 2006 The drive through Sault Ste. Marie and on to Manitoulin Island was a bit long and bumpy in places. Route 6 has lovely peach colored rock formations and views of Lake Huron. We are camped at South Bay Resort, awaiting a ride on the MS Chi-Cheemaun Ferry. Tuesday, August 8 We tried standby for the 9:10 sailing but were confirmed on the 1:30 sailing.
