Jan 25, 2013 - Still waiting

We are still sitting in the cold waiting for our truck to get repaired. It has been in the shop for four weeks. We are disappointed by the speed of our repair. The trailer on the other hand is looking good. I have a nice stand for the basement TV, and have tested the connections in the living room and bedroom as well. I still want to buy a satellite receiver for the basement, but other than that I think we are ready to go. I have also been looking at buying a new unlocked cell phone that I can use on both sides of the border. I am tired of...

Jan 20, 2013 - Getting ready

I think we are finally getting ready to move south. It has been quite a month. Our new trailer which was supposed to arrive in early December, finally arrived last week. We had to send it back to the dealer to have some changes made to our rooftop satellite, and a surge protector installed. Our trailer arrived back at the farm yesterday, and is hopefully now ready to go. Our truck is another story. After being hit on my way home from the farm in late December, my truck has been at the auto body shop. They finally got all the parts necessary...

Sep 16, 2012 - Home safe

We had a wonderful holiday. Today we traveled north through Vermont, around the north side of Lake Champlain into the state of New York. We crossed into Canada at Cornwall, after about a forty-five minute delay at the border. We hurried home across Hwy 401 to Toronto and up Hwy 404. It was a beautiful day for a drive. We put the trailer away until next time. Back to work tomorrow.

Dec 25, 2011 - First Entry!

Hiya! So this is my very first live journal entry. Yes, I've officially jumped on the bandwagon. Well, is it a bandwagon if it's not in the front of everyone's minds? It used to be. About 3 or 4 years ago everyone had a live journal. I don't know about that now. But oh well. Hopefully I'll be updating this quite regularly. I probably should explain why I'm starting a journal/blog in the first place. Now back in June, I got accepted into this program called Katimavik. I pass all medical exams, completed my french evaluation (boy, that's was...

Mar 11, 2011 - Back in Ontario

We arrived home safely last night. I have included some pictures of our flight home. We had a nice trip. I took the pictures while watching two movies, True Grit and Unstoppable. I enjoyed both movies. Glenna nervously watched the flight tracking map all the way home. I'm back to work for a couple of weeks.

Sep 19, 2010 - Back in Richmond Hill

We had a wonderful time at the rally. I've added a picture a friend sent me of Glenna and I. Thanks Harry. We arrived home Friday afternoon in time to pick some corn and check the crops. The corn and beans both look amazing. It has been an excellent growing season. The boys are planting wheat this week, and I'll be back in a week to help combine beans, which should be ready by then. Friends Jan and Bryce are arriving tomorrow morning. Jason should be home from the cottage in time to join us on our trip to St. Thomas. We really enjoyed last...

Aug 28, 2010 - Back Home

It's always nice to get home safe! We traveled down Hwy 400 this morning after a leisurely breakfast and another walk around the campground. ATVing is really popular in this part of Ontario. Many of the campsites had two or even more of them. By 8 am many of them were heading out to the trails. It looked like fun. Traffic going south was perfect, but the northbound side was bumper to bumper from Aurora to the Bayfield exit in Barrie. I can't imagine fighting that traffic to a cottage every weekend. Time to enjoy some time by the pool. We...

Apr 8, 2010 - Home safe

We had a nice night last night, our final night on the road. It is nice listening to the rain hit the trailer. This morning we did all the clean up jobs to prepare the trailer for storage before we headed east on I-90 to Buffalo. We crossed the Peace Bridge into Fort Erie at lunch time. We cleared customs quickly and drove the QEW to Toronto. It started to rain shortly after we passed Niagara Falls. It rained most of the way to Toronto. We had picked up a million bugs on the front nose of the trailer coming north this trip. There is nothing...

Dec 25, 2009 - Getting ready

It has been several months since we put the trailer away. This week I winterized the trailer and changed the engine oil in the generator. It's amazing how only a couple of trip preps can get one thinking of traveling. Jason has been making continual improvements over the last four months since he got out of the hospital. He is under-going many tests over the next few weeks. Hopefully we will get lots of good news and we will be able to head to Florida by the 20th of January. We have February and March campsites booked in Florida. This year...

Sep 28, 2009 - Heading home

Glenna and I enjoyed a few days here at Bayview Camp and Cottages. The weather has been absolutely beautiful. I had a slight case of the flu yesterday, so we postponed our trip home until this morning. Last night we had our second campfire. It was clear and calm. We had a very relaxing evening. It was very quiet and peaceful as we were one of two campers in the park. This morning it is raining. Watching BT in Toronto leads us to believe the weather is worse south of here. I want to empty and rinse our tanks well this morning, as this is our...

Jul 2, 2008 - Heading home

We woke up at 4:30 and after packing the car we said our goodbyes and headed to Heathrow. Chris and Clive have been amazing hosts. We returned our rental Mercedis and checked in for our flight home. We had a nice flight home. Although it's just after lunch, we've been on the go for 12 hours. What a wonderful trip, and once again it's nice to be home safe. Til next trip, Hugh
