We did not have any internet access for the past 2 days, so we had to wait till today to update our journal. We traveled to the Ottawa area and encountered very heavy traffic through Toronto that added about 1 hour to our travel time due to traffic stoppages. Tomorrow its off to Ottawa.

Canada Summer 2009

Aug 10, 2009 - Au Revoir Montreal, Hey Ottawa

We checked out after our free breakfast (I won again!) this morning and dragged our cases up the road towards the Greyhound station. We were planning to get the 1pm but realised that if we hurried we might be able to catch the one at midday. We grabbed a quick Subway for our lunch and arrived at the station at 11:45... not early enough though as there was a massive queue for tickets and we saw the bus pull away before we got to the front. So we sat in the terminal, munched our lunch and waited for the 1pm bus. The journey was only 2 ½...

Aug 9, 2009 - Toronto, Ottawa

Good Morning to all, The week started with adding a new member into the geocaching society, Clare (Lane’s girlfriend) and her golden retriever Farley. We search the immediate area and even discovered a cache at the home of Mr. Banting the developer of insulin and others in the parks around us. Dale and I headed in Toronto with plans to go up the CN tower, take the underground, sail on a 3 masted ship in the Toronto Harbour and take in a Blue Jay’s game for the evening. We began the day at noon, parked the car at the end of the underground...

Arrived in Ottawa July 25. Met up with Jen and Mitch Sieradzki and toured the Canadian Aviation Museum, did a drive by the Parliament building - Ed did not see Steve Harper cutting the grass so he could have a chat with him, so we went to everyone's favorite a Mexican Restaurant for lunch. Great time had by all.

Jul 8, 2009 - Leaving Ottawa June 30, 2009

For those of you who may not know everyone sharing this adventure with me let me introduce you to my very dear friends and riding buddies John Yaeger and Terry Greatrix, recognizable partly by the chin fuzz grown by all especially for this ride. I've only decided to attempt starting and maintaing this ride report as of day 10 so there will be a bit of catching up to do. Here we go ... June 30 Finally we were on the road after all these long months of waiting yet very little planning. The anticipation has settled into reality. We were...

Jun 28, 2009 - Ottawa and Parliment

We left the RVP at 9:00 AM and drove into Ottawa to tour the Parliment Building. No rain today so it was a good day for touring. Once we found a parking lot to accommodate our truck we walked over to the Parliment building taking some photographs and securing a place to watch the changing of the guard at the Parliment building. The changing began with a marching band including bag pipers and approximately 50 troops. It was quite an intricate procedure and lasted a full 1/2 hour. The ceremony occurs each day at 10:00 AM so our timing was...

Jun 27, 2009 - Relaxing in Ottawa

We departed Clayton, NY today at 7:45 AM and drove approximately 170 miles to Rockford, Ontario a suburb of Ottawa. It was an easy trip and we arrived here by noon. There were no border delays and we did not have our rig searched as happened to us on two occasions during our last visit to Canada. We were a little surprised with the fast entry as we were the only vehicle present at the time of our arrival. Our home for the next two days is Recreationland RVP and we have all of the necessities to make our stay comfortable. The WIFI service is...

Jun 16, 2009 - Kingston to Ottawa, Ontario

We left Kingston for the week long trip thru the Rideau Canal which was built 180 yrs ago. IT is about 126 miles long with about 45 locks. All but a couple of the locks are manually operated. We did not leave Kingston until about 10:00 since we were waiting on some parts. Rory, who we met at the marina and keeps his sail boat there, takes us to the store to get the parts. We meet Rory the day we arrived, and struck up an immediate friendship. We have great conversation (obviously since he is an engineer - LOL). We invite him over for supper...

Just Relax

Mar 31, 2009 - The count down is on!!

Hello everyone! I just discovered this website through the tour company I am going with. I hope it works well! I'm not really sure how to use it yet but we'll see and we'll learn together! I'm hoping that I will be able to get on the internet from time to time while I'm away to stay in touch and to let people know where I am and what I'm doing. I'll try to write things about what I've been seeing and hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures! You can follow my trip itinerary too. I think you can leave me messages here, perhaps questions...
