Aug 25, 2012 - Llama lore
Ignace, ON. We have definitely left the farming and ranch country of the prairies of Manitoba and Saskatchewan and are now travelling through the lake country of Ontario. We are seeing lake after lake after lake, and that is from the TransCanada Highway. Imagine how many must be out there! There is a suggestion of fall in the trees. We are seeing some yellows and reds already. Today’s journey took us to see Max the Moose. He is 18’ tall and weighs 9 tons. Even though we saw sign after sign warning us to beware of moose, Max is as close as...

Aug 10, 2009 - Sunny trip to Ontario
August 9 – Sunday A beautiful sunny day today with temperatures around 23 degrees – very nice to see the sun. We had a relaxing morning at our campsite. In the afternoon Heibners, Mulrooneys and Hilzs visited the Mennonite Heritage Village at Steinbach, MN. It was very interesting viewing the buildings from the sod, soil, grass and wood house built by the Mennonite immigrants in 1874, to the house & barn connected dwellings (the layout of which can be traced back to Prussia/Poland where the Mennonites settled from the 1500’s onwards), the...

Jul 22, 2008 - Winnipeg to Ignace, Ontario
I took Gino & Reba for a run in the campground before we pulled out at about 10:00 a.m. It was already getting hot at 7:30 a.m. and hit 28 degrees C by the time we stopped for the day. The drive was scenic with lots of lakes and trees and no issues other than being kind of warm. Once we got into Ontario, the highway became two-lane and there were many spots where construction was being done which slowed us down. Oh well, we’ve got lots of time to get where we’re going. We stopped for lunch at a very nice spot just east of Kenora by a...

The boys wanted to start the day with a quick swim before we left. I figured I should go in at least once - nearly killed me, I don't know how Ryan could spend nearly 40 minutes in there waiting for Kirsten to come and shoot the scene. After packing up, we stopped at the Park's interpretive centre, which was very worth the visit. Lots of information about the area's history, including a fascinating video about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Other exhibits depicted the area's geology and early settlement, and also highlighted the Group...
