Nov 4, 2012 - North of the Border

I drove through few snow showers while traveling across US 20A from Geneseo to Buffalo. No serious accumulation, just enough to keep the roads wet and wht wipers on. While passing through Batavia, NY,I saw 3 air plane murals - one from Vietnam, one from Korea, and one from WWII. Not sure why they are there, but the wings look weird. The Buffalo area is a treasure trove for DDD. Since it was lunch time when I passed through i decided to stop at Grover's, but it was closed on Sunday. I headed to the Lake Effect Diner. It's a real silver diner...

We went out to the Stone Croak at St. Jacobs for a very nice lunch. After the great visit I went back to Guelph and off to see Marcel, the best of the best at massage therapy. This wonderful man took time on Sunday to give both Terri and I a super massage and it was badly needed. Thanks Marcel, your work was truly appreciated. After the great massage Tyler, Terri’s son and Julia had a family...

Jun 28, 2010 - Mission Accomplished!

Today's destination would stamp complete on a chore that started back in January on our trip to Costa Rica. Our guide, Allan, had a set of binoculars, 8X40's, made by Eagle Optics that were fantastic! They were so great that it was Marilyn who said we had to get a set. So upon returning to Campbell River I went on a search to see where we could get these in Canada and discovered the Canadian distributor in Guelph, Eagle Optics.CA! So befor edeparting the campsite this morning, even before stopping at Tim Horton's!, their address was entered...

My journey's !!

Oct 11, 2009 - Guelph, Ontario Canada

We left Cousin Dick and Sherry's home in Ann Arbor, MI. After a wonderful visit and headed north to Flint, MI toward Canada for our next stop at Sue & David's home in Guelph, Ontario Canada. At the Immigration check point, the Officer asked the normal questions about liquor, guns etc., then threw us a curve. He asked where we were going, and Don said Canada. His next question was where we were going and the answer from Cathy was Ontario. We got the vibes by the next statement to Cathy from the Officer advising her that Ontario, Canada was...

Dec 16, 2008 - Merry Christmas

Christmas time is all about eating, drinking, Xmas parties etc etc? Being away from home makes it quite different though and it will be very quiet with just the 3 of us. We will be having our fair share of the festivities with a few party invites coming our way, but it feels quite weird when you can't let your hair down and totally relax. So, it makes you think about all the friends and family back home, and the Christmas' gone by when we spent it with each other. Too much good cheer on Xmas Eve, or on Xmas morning! Remember a few of them!...

Nov 16, 2008 - Waiting to Get on the Road

It is Sunday morning and we are ready to leave. One goodsized snag: Driver's side wiper seems to be stripped and will only flop all over. No dealers open today, so we will not leave until after we get this repaired tomorrow sometime. Lisa and grandsons happy. Out to breakfast and then just lazing around, waiting. It is snowing again. Lisa, Brian and boys off to Santa Clause parade. Bitter cold!!!!

Oct 29, 2008 - Beer, Beavers, Borders, Bronners, Behemoth & BOO!

So what can one cram into the second half of October? After coming back from the States and going back to work, the tourist pendulum was still swinging full tilt. First off........ the beer. Kitchener is very Germanic in its origins and was originally called Berlin until about the time of WW1. So with those connections and it being October, what else would be happening but a Beerfest. The Kitchener one is second only in size to the one in Munich and starts about the time the Munich one finishes, and goes for 10 days. There are street...

Oct 15, 2008 - Whale watching

We have always wanted to go whale watching, and while we were in Nova Scotia we decided to take the opportunity. The Bay of Fundy is one of the rich feeding grounds for the whales, dolphins and porpoises due to the great tides. We got suited out in our sexy orange floater suits, with heaps of layers underneath, walked like sumo wrestlers to the 9m inflatable Zodiac. We had been warned that it gets quite cold out there and powering out into the Bay we were glad of the insulation! Sitting and waiting in the ocean for the first sighting made...

Sep 15, 2008 - Just milling about!

One of the of the joys of travelling is getting to see new, and old places. Whilst Canada's history goes back thousands of years with their native tribes, European settlement is much more modern and follows similar traits to our own NZ history. Discovery then settlement by various European cultures with a few battles thrown in here and there over who gets what. Also there comes a need whilst trying to see a foriegn country as large as this one, time to take it easy or just "mill about". So in between the bigger (read longer) trips we have...
